Reviews of Poon Nah City Home Made Noodle
Not the best not worst ban mian I’ve had. The food was decent —satisfying enough if you’re in the area and craving a quick meal.
The real highlight, is the unforgettable cashier—a confident 8-year-old kid with his thick gold chain. This young entrepreneur takes your order with a boss like attitude.
Efficient & fast, and during his breaks, you’ll catch him casually messaging his 15 girlfriends (or so it seems).
Truly an inspiration in life
Look—if you’re expecting some jaw dropping mindblowing ban mian soup—you’re not going to get it here. I wouldn’t travel across the country just to have this—you could probably get a ban mian that does the job in your estate. This is however one of the classic ban mians that I think is the textbook example of what folks have in mind when we say “ban Mian/U mian.” While prices are no longer affordable as they used to be—it is still reminiscent of a sincere bowl of noodles with homemade chilli that packs a fiery punch. The clams are sweet—the money leaves add texture, and the noodles are well cooked. Not bad if you’re looking to support the little store and the history in an otherwise old mall. But like I also said—it’s just ban mee soup. 🤷🏻♀️
Legendary ban mian and mee hoon kway place. Love their chilli too packs a punch. Alot of varieties for ingredients as well. Also their poh piah is quite good 👍🏻 too. Worth the money and is bang for buck.
Comfortable food for me! Loved the dried versions of ban mian.
Wide variety of toppings to choose from, prawn, fish maw, razor clams, fish etc.
Sides dishes over 20types to add on!
Not forgetting the powerful chilli!
Ambiance is just a normal Aircon kopitiam. Nothing much to complain ya!
My favourite mee hoon kuay store of all time since young. The soup is yummy! Although it’s a little sad that they started using machine for the mee hoon kuay but I still enjoy it very much. Highly recommended! 👍🏻 $4.50 for a regular bowl and $5.50 or $6.60 for more noodles~
Recently tried their fried fish balls and it was yummy!!
Ordered Fish Maw Soup Ban Mian and loved it. Loved the texture of the noodle (which didn't get soggy til the end), veggie they use (not sure of the name, but has a very nice flavour and texture), and their very spicy chilli!!
I will definitely come back again.
Good bowl of ban mian especially good on cold days. Liked the Umami of the soup and tasted no msg. Could have had a little more noodles and perhaps more fish slices, but overall, it's a good bowl of noodles served in a metal bowl.
Super like their chili. Always order the Mee Hoon Kueh very delicious. Reasonable price. Don’t come during holiday because sometimes no seats available.
The homemade feels is real. The soup feels so lovingly made (I don’t know the recipe) that you can just imagine a kindly grandmother spending hours over a stove to make it. The noodles and ingredients are amazing too, and they have a good selection of side dishes for hungry eaters! Best of all, they have wonderful and friendly staff who’ll take your orders and explain everything to you.
Other than a certain fried chicken, the other food that's synonym with City Plaza is Poon Nah City Home Made Noodles. More affectionately known as City Plaza Ban Mian (go on Google it like this and you will still find its address!)
I love my youmian in dry version and these QQ noodles just gives the homely feel in every mouthful. The black unami sauce is delicious on its own, and it's specialty chilli sauce is da bombz! You can even buy the chilli sauce in bottles on its own! Very telling of its followings and demand!
One of the best ban mian that serves dry version. Price is reasonable and it has air con!!! Very important when eating ban mian as it'll be very hot. The highlight is their chilli that the boss is very proud of himself. Note : this fish ban mian dry is only $4.5
Used to come here at least once a month. Last time here was 6 months back. Just had lunch here. 30mins wait and a BIG drop in standard. Disapppinted. Hope it improves soon... Only have the old photo when it was really really good...
Good taste of variety noodles to be chosen.
It is located inside a food court inside city plaza at level 5. The broth is clear and the noodles are with a chewy texture. The best portion of the meal is the chilli, the spiciness is at another level and it boosts the broth taste when you place some into the soup. But be warned about the spiceness!
Taste wise still as good, potion wise need to get e mid or large one to be really full. Small potion really oni for small eaters. Pix is e small potion.
😋😍
Such flavorful mee hoon kueh and fresh prawns! Soup super tasty.
Not forgetting the powerful own made chilli sauce. All of them complement one another to make a yummy dish!
Must try if you are a MHK addict like me.
Value for money and yet super tasty !!!
What are you waiting for ???
Come down and try for yourself.
Mee Hoon Kweh home cook style. If u want to get something soupy around this area. Taste not fantastic…
The noodles there is really authentic and delicious. Although that place is a bit old, in the future you might not be able to find these kind of places easily
Better than most Home-made noodle stalls.
Will make the trip to come back for more.
Heard good review about the stall, hence went to try. The abalone and fish maw noodles were delicious, and value for money. There were lot of ingredients and the soup was tasty. Will certainly patronize the stall again.
Taste is still there although I agree portions have shrunk. You’re compelled to pay extra $0.50 for takeaway EVEN IF you bring your own food container. WTH! I guess all these extras go towards the Rolex Rootbeer that the lady boss is wearing and the AP Diver that the lady boss’s daughter is wearing 😄
My go to place for ban mian, as the veggies are special and I like flavours including the chilli. Been consistent in my visits. The owner is reliable and responsive when I was asking her some questions over phone. Highly recommended
The banmian is very good and affordable! Where can you get pork and sliced fish for $4.50 only..
Can get quite crowded,if you don't mind.
Just ate today, the Mee hoon kuay is as delicious as how I remembered it. BUT. The meat portion is pathetically little. 1 tiny meat ball and small amounts of disintegrated meat. Far cry from 3 years ago when I ate it. Otherwise, tasty soup, delicious chilli.
Also the chicken drumsticks (drumlets, to be accurate) are really good!
Overall still worth it!
one of the best ban mian i've ever eaten that makes me come back for more! yes, the portion may be rather small, but you can always add noodles or ingredients if you want a bigger portion. overall, this is something i call comfort food and the chilli takes the whole dish to a whole new level! :-D
Quite a healthy spin to ban mian. The soup is quite clear and you do have a hint of that traditional ban mian taste.
PS, I like my ban mian to be rich in stock so take my review with a pinch of salt.
The noodles are really springy and tasty. However preparation for the noodles takes awhile for a simple bowl of broth and noodles. Could wait up to 15mins for a bowl during lunch hour. Come during off peak if possible.
Delicious, not too doughy
Always coming back here for more. But it's getting less....try it....
I only have one recommendation - add the chili to the soup. It gives the soup a whole new dimension!
Also, add the chili bit by bit since it is very spicy.
Could have been more generous on the ingredients.
Nice ban bian hiddenly located ☺️ portion is small but sufficient will go back again
standard has dropped. more finger foods available, not so bad
Food was ok. Cleanliness of the eating area was a bit below par though.
over all the food is good, only the owner not so friendly.
Staff are rude. Portion small. But food is good.
Great food. Love the chilli. thumbs up
Decently good though I recall it to be better some years back.
always love coming here for mee hoon kuay!
many years eating there got feel maybe
Was better during no dine in, dunno why
Authentic but not as tasty as before...
The soup stock can be better
