Reviews of Sik Bao Sin/Desmond Creation 吃飽先
No frills restaurant, honest great tasting ZiChar. Taste for each dish is spot on. Go early and Que! We Que abt 45min at 6pm, I loved the chicken!! Amazing especially the pickled ginger.
Went on a Friday lunch.
I arrived at 1140am, but the queue was short - only 3 in front of me.
The restaurant promptly opened at 12.
Food was served fast. I like the minced meat and rate it as my number 1 dish. The fried kailan with beef is delicious too. The chicken soup is fine, but I found it overpriced at $35.
I will give tofu prawn a miss next time.
Also, cash payment only. Total: $135 for 3 pax (not cheap for a high end zi char meal).
Overall Verdict: I will return again. The food is 👍
Abit pricer than expected.
Very noisy during our visit, cant even hear ourselves...😔🙈altho i must say, their dishes are v tasty n they hv perfected it thru the years.
Gd decision to hv fewer selections but do well in all of them.👍👍👍
We had kailan w sliced beef👍👍watercress soip n steam salted fish minced pork
It's been more than 5 years since I last came here. Whenever my family visits Singapore, they would always come here. The black chicken soup and steamed fish tasted much better than I remembered. The chicken was incredibly soft and the soup was very nourishing and rich. The fish was not smelly at all, the meat was very soft, and the sauce was so good especially with the fried lard. The kangkong belacan was really good too, generous sambal and more leaves than stem. The tofu with prawns was good too, prawns were fresh and bouncy, but I feel the tofu skin was too dry. Regulars are familiar with this: each dish takes quite a while to come out, 10-15min, and the restaurant is full as soon as it opens, so come early.
Taste is average, it doesn’t have WOW Factor, Please Michelin team come to Indonesia if you want to find very delicious restaurant to review
The queue forms 30 min before opening hours (was there on sat for dinner).
Limited menu but the dishes were done well. I especially liked the steam pork with salted fish. Salty but I love the springy texture. Goes great with rice. Though I am not a sweet and sour pork person, I love the version of sweet and sour pork here. Unlike other places, the pork pieces were big and crispy. I taste pork more than flour. And it wasnt drowned in ketchup, which was good. Veg is great too.
The price of the food is reasonable n the food is delicious. Guests are warmly served. The eating place is air conditioned n cosy.
We love the steam pork with salted fish. But the watercress soup is underwhelming. I will stick to the ⭐️ dishes that are marked in the menu next time 😂
Would really love to come back and try other dishes if i come in a larger group.
Also queue is very long because we do come during dinner time. Just a quick note that when you do arrive, do approach and inform the server that you are queueing and how many are there in your group, don’t just wait there 😊 because it only counts as queueing when he/she has listed you in their waitlist note.
The service staff are friendly and prompt despite the crowd.
The food here deserves a easy 5 stars, however the price should reflect the overall experience and accordingly. The sweet and sour pork $28 for small serving, the Kai Lan with 3 prawns was $22. I can’t help but feel that this establishment is resting on its laurels with its numerous Michelin bib mentions. Overall experience is fine but also making it cash only also makes things tough for customers. I’ll be back maybe but probably not any time soon
Waiting time less than 20 min. Fresh ingredients
Must order... A steam fish head limited portion.
Sweet and sour pork... BEST 👍🏻👍🏻
Black chicken soup... BEST 👍🏻👍🏻
Steam pork with salted fish … OK OK 👍🏻
Tofu prawn 🍤… BEST👍🏻👍🏻
Portions are big.
Overall nice food price is quite plausible.
This place serves comfort food for us. It’s a relatively small menu but doesn’t matter to us as we only consistently ordered the same 3 dishes ( steam pork w salted fish, kailan with beef and tofu prawns). Quality has stayed the same over the last few years but prices has definitely increased with reduced portion. Prices are not cheap. Don’t get fussy with this place and you will get a more enjoyable experience. Otherwise, it’s not difficult for you to find fault.
Some of the dish finish fast so come early ( for dinner come before 7.30) to avoid disappointment. Limited choice of dishes ( usually is a good thing as this indicate quality over quantity) . One of the must try is the steam fish which is cooked with pork lard. Herbal chicken soup is pretty tasty too. During our visit, service was fast ( our meal was served within 15 minutes) and friendly.
Was introduced to this Michelin star / Cantonese restaurant by a good friend. He offered to drive me and a friend together to try this food. For those who drive, parking is inside the lorong.
Fortunately, we go during lunch at a weekday, reaching before 12.15pm. The crowd pour in at around 12.30pm.
We ordered their famous steam fish w black beans, bittergourd w pork ribs, watercress soup and mapo tofu.
Very impressive! definitely. The past review by many diners is a good testimony to their cuisine standing.
One of best Cantonese style ZiChar in SG. The famous KaiLan beef and sweet and sour pork is so delicious. However they have limited selection but that’s what makes them focus only few special items. Soup serving is huge and one order of soup and two side dish is plenty for two hungry adults. Was there on Friday early dinner and they soon packed in hungry patrons waiting outside for a table. Prices a bit steep for a Coffeeshop restaurant but have maintain same high quality food.
Always like to go back and eat, not many dishes but every dishes are beautiful and taste! Jo so friendly and nice!!
The foods that we ordered tasted superb👍🏻👍🏻 really suited my taste bud , reminded me of my grandma cooking back home, even not many variety in the menu but all very nice and tasty. Recommended to bring guests, won’t disappoint.
This is my 3rd visit to Seb Bao Sin Desmond's Creations. Joanna greeted and was warm and loving as ever. She made excellent recommendations, ensuring tue 2 of us greed people did not over order. Service is first class. Nothing escapes her eyes. Food was amazing! Love the pork with salted fish and chicken with pickled ginger. OMG, had 2 bowls of rice. Fish, prawns, and kangkong were all good, too! Had a great time as usual.
Delicious food that is “no nonsense”. Was feeling under the weather but felt better immediately after dining here. Would definitely be back to try other dishes. However it is slightly pricey.
This is a small eatery serving up Chinese zhi char dishes and is run by the 2nd generation of the now defunct Sik Wai Sin.
The menu is limited to a 1 page fare of very good dishes. If you’re lucky, they may have wild caught fish that’s off menu. Their regular fish head, watercress soup, steamed pork patty, pork ribs with bitter gourd and ginger chicken are all well done. The tofu prawns are also great Imo.
All round worth a try and definitely a return.
The beef Kai Lan very tender and juicy. The ginger chicken highly recommended by the lady boss, the ginger texture like chestnut, crunchy and sweet. The toufu prawn, the prawn very big and fresh. But overall the taste is normal. The sweet sour pork is nice, the pork is crispy not oily. The fish is soso, below our expectations.
The fresh water steam fish was steam to perfect, as it's fresh-water-fish expect to have more bones. Love all the dishes that my friend ordered. Lady boss was friendly.
3 blokes 5 dishes slightly over $100. Satisfiedly full ☺️ but the salted-fish steamed minced pork was just a bit overcooked (tough). Black chicken herbal soup damn good.
Had steamed fish head ($28), ginger chicken ($23) & kai lan beef ($21), was good.
Our family has been dining at this wonderful restaurant since 1980’s, spannin from my grandfather to my child. They offered limited number of dishes but every dish is cooked to perfection. It's a cherished place for us, consistently delivering excellent meals and unforgettable memories.
This family style restaurant has a very small limited menu, but they are really good at the few dishes they do. I especially loved the black chicken soup and steam fish. As you can see, didn't manage to capture a pic before digging in. Empty plates are more telling, isn't it?
Follow me on IG @phiyphiy for more! =)
Food was nice but do note the pricing. Menu has no price. Best to enquire. Was `shocked' to see my bill, in particular prawn with `special sauce'. 5 medium size prawns for $45. Didn't expect to pay this much although was prepared to pay a slight premium. Make your own assessment, just be mindful of what you can expect to pay. Total bill for 2 persons, 3 dishes plus tea $96.
Food is very tasty. They cook dishes by dishes across all orders. So some dishes may need to wait longer. But worth waiting. They are one of Michelin nominees recently.
Double the price compared to normal tze-char....but the food quality is of a different league. Will definitely come back again!
Great service ! Unbelievable food! The place is clean . Everybody is happy to serve their delicious food! We can’t wait to return .
Same menu as Eat First in Siglap. Good comfort Cantonese zhi char, but slightly pricey and oilier. Carpark along Geylang difficult to find unless early.
The tofu prawn here with the gravy is delicious. Also the Kailan Beef. I do want to come here with more people next time so I can order a variety of dishes here.
Chanced upon this restaurant while looking for duck rice in the area. Was super impressed with their simple, no fuss menu! Food was served pretty fast and for someone who does not even like salted fish, their steamed pork with salted fish is pretty good, I would say. We totally love the tofu prawns as well, which is perfect when taken with rice! The only thing will be the prices of the food, the 2 dishes with 2plain rice cost us $50 which is pricey in a way. But we will still go back to try out the other 11 dishes for sure. Highly recommended!
One of the best chinese resto in Singapore. Better come early to avoid crowd
Enjoyed my meal there.
The food came in big portions. You cannot choose the size and the price is not on the menu. So better come in a group.
Foods were generally good.
I like the bitter gourd the most.
The soup is cleared and clean-taste.
Many tables had steamed fish, so I will try that next time.
Waiting time is super long if you don’t come early that’s why the title “eat full first”.
Quality of food is exceptional, but they are the dishes you can commonly get everywhere.
Very commendable is their mince meat with Salted fish, exceptional texture. For their Steam Song fish head, the pork lard really musks the muddy tastes.
Only One size, so if you are in small group please do not order too much.
Although all the popular dishes were sold out, 3 of us VERY Satisfied with the food that we ordered!
1st dish fried Kang Kong with garlic, my girls already like it so much! 😋
when the steam rice served she said even their steam rice quality better than any restaurant 😂
Tofu prawns- Best tofu So smooth👍👍😋
Steam salted fish mince pork- Good👍👍perfect with steam rice 😋
Sweet and sour pork-Good must order👍👍😋
*Must come at least 4-5paxs, some dishes only one size portion quite big
Also can order more dishes…😄
We definitely will be coming back next week 🙌🏼😋
One of my family favourite eating location for the weekend. I don't eat fish but my whole family so in love with their fish head especially my dad & granny. Always order the same few dishes like the tofu prawn, salted meat, bitter gourd pork rib, kailan vegetable. The bitter gourd pork rib is one of the best dish that I have ate better.
Legend has it that there is only one chef cooking up the dishes in the kitchen. Busy during lunch time so I don’t know how he / she does it. Probably the best sweet sour pork dish I have ever had.
Not the cheapest tze char, but nevertheless, food is good! Their food selection is also not as many as you would expect in a regular tze char.
I tried the following foods:
1. Steamed fish head - The fish itself is well-cooked, the flesh is still very soft. The steaming sauce is the special one, to me. It is not the typical soya sauce, but instead, it is more like fermented bean paste, which taste is somewhat similar to miso paste. It is quite unique which I have not found elsewhere so far.
2. Kailan - The vegetable is not overdone, still crunchy. It is also well seasoned.
3. Tofu with Prawns - There are quite a lot of tofu slices even for the small portion. The tofu is good, the prawns are also still crunchy. The sauce is also very tasty.
4. Sweet Sour Pork - The sweet sour pork is rather expensive, though the sauce and the pork is very good! The pork is tender and the batter remains crispy even after being left out for some time. The sauce itself is not the diluted/wet kind and clings well to the pork.
All in all, good food. Note that they do not accept card payment (cash only).
Q started before opening hour at 11.45am. Usually long Q during peak meal time. Food menu are standard. Serving are fast. Food tasty and fresh. I like the bean paste fish head, be careful of many small bones. Prawn w tau full - the prawn are very big and sauce is fantastic tasty. Parking is a big problem.
Very tight menu but all well executed. No reservations so have to queue patiently. After seated food takes awhile more to come. Closed on Mondays!
Same great taste even after all these years 👍🏼
Superb cantonese style food. Must order the sweet and sour pork, steamed minced pork with salted fish, kailan with beef... Payment is by cash only so fill your wallet up before making your way in. There is posb and ocbc atm at the ntuc nearby.
veggies were quite but the fish had a strange taste
Better come 30 minutes they open. The food choice not so many, taste is good and bit pricey
Black chicken soup it's awesome! Food is great and comes in big portion. There's a bit of waiting time because the restaurant is full.
Food quite cheap for the type of dishes on offer. Curry fish head a must. Food waiting time abit long so don't go there if in a rush
Consistent taste, great fav of my family
Fantastic food and quick service, but you have to be early. Like one of the first to arrive. Otherwise be prepared to queue and wait.
nostalgic, food is awesome
Truly excellent lunch!
Simple, tradition. Little dish done in a GREAT way!!! Haha! You Must try !!! Aa and when surely will miss here the food!!!
A typical Cantonese restaurant, with 13 dishes on the menu, food was good and delicious,
The fried prawns were impeccable. Fish was not so good. Service was not the best as well
Always loved this place! Make sure to go early and order. Or call to find out avaliabity. Worth the wait always!
Good food in general but some dishes are on the pricier side.
Above average old school cooking.. Steam pork with salted fish is a must try
Good food. Lovely couple owners. Passionate cooking
Delicious food and Good variety to choose from. Waiting time is long
The food was soooo good
Delicious food
very good! It was the best Singaporean meal of the trip.
Stir-fried pork with sweet and sour pork is delicious, both fragrant, hot, and round in flavor. Family style restaurant. Located not far from the city. There isn't much on the menu, and most importantly, 1 of the owners speaks Thai. The food prices are considered high (~20 SGD), but the portions are large. Suitable for 4 people or more so you can order many things. For 2 people, if you order 2 things, you'll be very satisfied.
FYI, this shop only accepts cash.
My friend told me to take me out for dinner, but I didn’t expect that the dishes in an ordinary small restaurant were really amazing. I could feel the chef’s care. Especially the beef kale and steamed pork patties are must-order dishes and we couldn’t stop eating.
And the price is reasonable, I really recommend it.
Note: Cash transaction.
