Reviews of Song Kee Fishball Noodle
Usually a Bak Chor Mee lover but have to say that this is a good bowl of fish ball noodles with jumbo sized ingredients, fair for their relatively higher pricing. Go for the Medium size and you will be really full. Do give it a try.
Loved their handmade fishball and chilli. Their fish dumplings (her keow) is the best. big, juicy and thin skin.
- Easy to order, just need to choose size, level of spicy and type of noodles, default toppings, no vegetable.
- Fast service, friendly staffs.
Excellent fishball noodles and very good portion! This is a $7.50 bowl which I couldn’t wait to tuck in which explains the half eaten bowl of noodles photo. Some other reviewers are right, a $5 bowl is probably substantial already.
Bouncy fishballs, springy QQ flavourful noodles. Couldn’t ask for more in a bowl of Mee Kia. Oh! And with the super nostalgic and retro music blasting… totally completes the experience.
Thank you!
Dropping one star because everytime maybe 30 mins after eating start to feel sick and uneasy, like a lot of MSG. Anyone else?
Nice noodle, the cooking is perfect! Chilli sauce is so good. Old way of doing, (1960 types),hard to find nowadays . Service is good. Forget to take pictures but I package raw fish rolls and fish dumplings home with 1 package of hot soup. All handmade, hard to find!
Wonderful Fishball noodles! Springy noodles with fresh fishball and others like dumplings and etc makes a bowl filled with a punch.
Had both dried with thin noodles and mee pok, both are well cook and seasoned with their unique chilli. Not overly spicy but the right amount of umami in it! (If order less spicy, the bowl will be a little less salty.)
Pork lard is balanced but to some a bit too oily??
Nevertheless, a wonderful bowl of local delight at its best! Will Definately return for more!
Parking is limited and wheelchair customer will have an issue as the route is not the smoothest.
Hands down the most heavenly fish dumplings ever. Skin texture is excellent. Filling is OH SO GREAT. Even the plain Dry noodles' sauce is FREAKING amazing!!! The service is great and very personal. They treat you like a friend. it's simply a joy to visit each and Everytime!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Stepping here was a journey back to childhood flavors. The abundance of ingredients is worth the price. Overall taste exuded that blend of nostalgia of growing up. What elevated the experience even more was the well-balanced spice in the chili – enough to add a kick without overpowering the dish. Totally recommended.
Nice comfort food to go for. This ORIGINAL Song Kee was formerly located near Joo Chiat before they shifted over to Yio Chu Kang. Attached some video and photo to show where they are located. Limited free street parking behind the shop.
The fish dumpling is a must order. They sell chilled one as well, min 10pieces. They do not have another outlet, dun be confused by the other Song Kee elsewhere. They have already started taking orders for min 30piece frozen fish dumpling for CNY. May WhatsApp to order the Fish dumplings.
Will always order the kway teow with chilli. The chilli sauce goes so well with the kway teow and topped with nicely fried pork lard. There are a few options available. Yong tau foo version, full fish dumplings version , fish ball noodles version to go with noodles or without.
Staff and owner is always so friendly and food decently priced given the portion and high quality of food. Must try!
Ordered 2 medium fishball noodles and a can drink for $15. The dry mee pok is abit over cooked, that’s why is soft and a bit soggy. The soup is average. The ingredients are awesome, especially the hand made fish balls. They are really generous with the ingredients for the medium serving.
If the Martians have the death beam pointed at us, threatening to push the red button unless we impress them with a good bowl of fishball noodles, this is the one, this is the place to save all of us.
Song Kee serves the most scrumptious fishball noodles in town! Their fishballs are tender, springy texture and flavorful bite. The noodles are cooked to a perfect texture, and the savory broth is rich and comforting.
Visited the Yio Chu Kang this time. Heard moved over here.
Noodles was average. Fishballs were big so guess worth the money? But it's just a fishball
Fish dumplings the bomb
********
It was OK. The fish dumplings and fishballs were unique. However the noodles were a bit too soggy for my liking and the sauce was average. The Ingredients were super.
Food was OK but nowadays the waiting time is always very long. We usually reach before noon and have to wait about 30 min to get our food. Cos they allowed people to call in to order for takeout and whenever they receive calls, they slot in between the orders of those who are dining in. Possibly cos when they called, they told them what time they will pick up.
I saw many people who just appeared and shortly after, picked up their to go order. Much quicker than those of us dining in. So even when you see X number of people there, there could be many more people who had called and to order takeout. So the food is not served according by order.
Only go if you are willing to wait and don't mind that you may not get the food in chronological order
This is a traditional eating house setup, similar to Hawker Centre or food court setup. The fish ball and fish dumpling is the differentiator, their unique recipe and extra large size. If you like fish dumpling, I would say this falls under “die, die, must try” category. Enjoy!
Apperantly they have a few branches in Singapore. I had the $SGD6 portion, it comes with variety of ingredients such as tau pok, fishballs and their reknown fish dumpling. Cant complain about the noodle, it was nicely cooked and their pork lard was addictive. Cant tell that their fishball were homemade, texture is unlike those store bought ones.
I am happy to have discovered this noodles stall. Everything is awesome. I fell in love with the bowl of noodles immediately at the first scoop. So so satisfying. Thank you 🙏🏼
THE PLACE to go to for fish dumplings.. fishball flavourful and 'bouncy'. Fish dumplings are another level... can't find anything close in market
Possibly one of the best fishball/fish dumpling place in Singapore. Even before it opens, people are already seated outside. There are 4, 6 and 8 dollar for the noodle. Ordered a separate bowl of fish dumplings which costs 8. Excellent ingredients. Worth coming over just for that.
A few branches in Singapore, this place is famous for its fish ball noodles. According to my friends, the signature item is the fish dumpling as my uploaded pic below. Personally, I prefer the the fishball than the fish dumpling. Will definitely introduce friends who love fish ball noodles.
One of the best if not the best fishball noodles I have tasted so far
Patronize this stall since their location in Serangoon then shifted to Tembeling street. It is still the best fishball noodles I had. Chilli and the ‘kiao’ is my favorite. They sell the kiao in chilled too, 1 for $1
I have always passed by this area but never once tried it. Decided to pack it for my brunch today. Love it. I got the small size but for me it’s a big portion. If you love crispy pork lard and tasty fishballs, you will like this place 🤩
Probably a household name in Singapore for fish ball noodles. All of their accompaniments for their noodle are handmade in-house. And a good percentage of it is made from fish instead of flour or whatnot. Good stuff. Especially their her-kiao (fish dumpling) which is plump and juicy. Their (dry) noodle base is unique. Made mostly of onions and hae-bee (dried shrimp) seasoned with (probably) sweet black sauce. Of course there is chilli and lard too. Nice, but if you want a more “cheng”-tasting fish ball noodle, this is not it. All the same, they have many regulars considering their location is pretty isolated. Have been following them when they were at Upper Serangoon Road, then Tembeling and now YCK. Yes, you can consider me a regular.
Picture shown is $7 when it was out of fish balls.
The 老板娘 is very warm and the service is good. Above all, this is the most un-salty fishball, taupok and all the fish-based products I’ve ever eaten.
Like comfort food handmade by a loving grandmother, all the ingredients are homemade goodness. The chilli paste is haebihiam, so it’s very fragrant.
The soup is very subtle — I’m pretty sure there’s no msg 😂 Even the homemade barley is subtly sweet and refreshing.
Will definitely be back for more 🎉🌷💗
Song Kee is renowned for its handmade fishballs. Whether you're a fan of fishballs or looking for a hearty bowl of noodles, this stall is arguably the best!👍🏻💯
Their handmade herh keow (fish dumpling) is the star🌟extremely plump with alot of meat filling. The noodles are perfectly cooked to the right qq texture and their huge fishballs are tasty and bouncy too mixed with the fragrant sambal chilli that has huge bits of hae-bee 🤤explosion of flavours😋
MUST Try! You will surely come back for more!
Noodle size in S ($5), M ($7), L ($9)
Gotta try with Chilli. Very flavourful with springy & QQ noodle.
Their handmade fishballs are huge as well. Haven’t had such good fishball noodle for awhile,
Nice fishballs and fish dumplings in a clean and airy coffeeshop. Only complain is the dry noodles are on the oily side which seems to be a common problem. Don't forget to get great Soon Kuehs from the shop across the road.
Try out the fish ball noodle in Song Kee. Not sure what to choose, so I just pick kuey teow. After trying it out, instant regret because kuey teow is not the right noodle to go with the dry chilli base 🤣 Should have pick thinner noodle then it will be nice. Overall the experience is nice, tender fish ball and different kind of fish made ingredient.
Never fail to disappoint! Been here more than 5 times (at minimum).
Noodles are good, fish balls perfect. Highly recommend!
Decided to try this famous noodle shop after watching Ch8 show that featured it.
Location wise, it's not really convenient as it is not near any MRT stations and there is literally no parking there. The nearest carpark is the stadium carpark which is a good 5 to 10 mins walk away from the shop.
Ordered the medium portion at $7. While the amount of ingredients are good, the noodle portion is the normal portion. If one wants extra noodles need to tell the lady explicitly to add noodles as up-sizing only increases the amount of ingredients and not noodles.
Also vinegar is not added as default. Have to add it yourself as they provided the vinegar at the collection point.
Taste wise it was good, The noodles, fishball and other ingredients are tasty and well cooked. The Fishballs are also pretty firm which is what I like.
The one thing i don't like is that they added too much oil into the noodles. For the portion of noodles it's too much. For those that don't want too much oil must tell the lady specifically.
For those who want to take away, can order by calling them and the lady will tell you to come in how many minutes depending on how busy they are.
Free seating and self service taking the noodles and drinks.
A family run bussiness, specialises in fish ball noodle. All condiments are home made and reasonable price.
one of the best food i’ve tried in Kuala Lumpur, the texture is nice also the broth is so delicious!
Fishball and meatball were handmade, super chewy. Loved the noodles here :)
One of the best Song Kee fishball noodles. Been having these since childhood days. Fish dumplings or 'hee keow' are to die for! Last few weeks to enjoy here at Tembeling. They are shifting to 100 Yio Chu Kang Rd end March! Don't say bojio!
Absolutely the best handmade fish ball noodles in the East Side & maybe Singapore. Chilli is power-packed & Fish balls have a natural QQ texture, that can bounce off your table every time. Highly recommended! :)
I thought that the bowl of noodles tasted better when they were in the east side. My noodles were over cooked despite a quiet afternoon.
The chili and herkiao still are the highlights in this bowl.
I love the texture of the noodles very bouncy and chewy. The highly of the noodles however is the meat dumplings, peppery taste with every bite. I highly recommended 👍 getting more as one is not enough.
One of the best fish ball noodles that I've tasted in town. Although a bit on the pricey side, the quality of the fish balls are well deserved.
The fish balls are bouncy with a succulent taste of fish. Couple with the fried tofu and wonton, it makes a very good noodle dish.
I've always ordered the bee hoon soup version, but I'd imagine the dry noodles version would be just as good.
If you intend to come here to beat the crowd, try to come in the early evening. The breakfast service will have a decent waiting time.
While huge meat ball and dumpling were nice, I would rate average for the noodles overall. The previous teochew fish ball noodles stall run by an old couple @ Hong Lim Hawker Centre ( now no longer in operation because of health reason), or the stall no. 69 at Newton Circle served/serves nicer dried noodles.
Surprisingly, service was fast - probably was not so crowded for lunch on a Sunday noon time.
I have tasted, but no big deal! I won't travel all the way from the west to eat at Song Kee Fishball noodles at Yio Chu Kang.
Huge portions hence the high prices for fish all noodles. Staff are friendly and it's a nice quiet corner near the famous colourful shophouses in joo chiat. Definitely for the fish ball / "UFO" lover. Medium portion at $10 is already the size of my open hand!
Definitely a much better place than tembling road but parking nearby still same issues. But overall is not bad just that the noodles standard had dropped a little but the fish ball and other stuff still as good.
I used to hate eating fish ball noodles until I had the one at blk527 amk. This brunch is closer to me now and I would go back almost once a week for their fish dumpling only noodles. $7.
My recommendation: mee kia extra chill
5 stars for the fish meat ingredients but 4 stars for the noodles. Wished the noodles was less overcooked and more 'Q' there was already a short queue when I got there at 1130 in the morning. But there were plenty of seating.
In my opinion, the best fishball noodles money can buy. The fish dumplings are out of this world.
Springy noodles with chewy fish balls. What more can you ask for?! 5 star. Enough said!
People like Song Ki for the ingredients - unique large fish balls and yu jiao - and the chilli base it uses for the dry noodles. This is good stuff.
But is it worth the 45 min wait at the Yio Chu Kang outlet? I actually think not. So if you do brave the time, bring newspaper and buy a cup of coffee. And while the time away...
Nice noodle and fresh fish balls. Normally I am not a great fan of her kew but their ones are very nice. Service was not bad, rather friendly.
Fresh, unique, tasty fish balls. Good sambal! Must Try! You will surely come back for more.
Update review (Oct 2022): Sambal is not as good as before, less of a kick compared to before
Juicy bouncy fishball and to-die-for handmade fish dumplings since 1966. So much craft in a simple bowl of fishball noodles. Must-try!
The food is good. Fishballs QQ and fish dumplings also big and fresh. But service staff gave my orders to others so I waited very long. Else I enjoyed my meal alot.
The newly Char Kuey Teow in their menu is superb! Must go and try, you won’t be disappointed for sure. For people who doesn’t like cockles at all, this is perfect plate for you.
Food is great. Nice portion and the food is fast. Great taste. Recommended.
Some of the best fishball noodles in Singapore. The fishballs are fresh, springy and large size. Prices are on the high side but Singaporeans largely will find it still worthwhile.
I had the mid size bowl of noodles and I must say it's more that sufficient quantity for $7. Ladies might just go for the small bowl.
Expect to wait in line and up to 20 minutes from queuing until you get your food... That is if you can find a seat. There's roughly 20+ tables ranging from 2 to 6 seaters. This shop is flanked by a busy slip road from Yio Chu Kang to Kovan and a cul-de-sac serving a dozen landed houses (whom must be frustrated) with very limited street parking.
The nearest parking is by the stadium.
super quick service for one bowl, solid bowl of noodle with drin
Very delicious side dishes, The barley drink is 100%! Must try, I even bought another cup for takeaway.
The only issue might be the limited parking space.
Looks so good but overall so-so only. The mee pok was a tad overcook and over saucy, soup was tasteless and the ingredients though seems fresh but were also mostly bland except for the bigger fishball(or was that meatball?). Looks like the work of an apprentice with a master recipe.
Fishball Mee Pok (Dry). Not a big fan of their dried beancurd (tau pok) but their fish dumplings is still #gamestrong . Pity they ran out of meatballs when I was here.
Happened to go there for dinner but was quite disappointed with the food though ambience and service were good. Preferred the one along upper Serangoon Road, which I find the food to be tastier.
I felt not as nice as before.
But I still like the taste of the fish dumplings.
1st time to try , definitely will come back again
One of the finest hand make fishball soup you could get in Singapore.
Always love the handmade fishballs and 'her keow' (fish dumplings), noodle texture is consistently springy and firm. The sauce is well balanced with just the right level of spiciness.
Like that there are 黑醋 bottles available on the tables for you to adjust accordingly, as I am a big fan. Although on the pricey side, I will always come back.
Excellent bowl of noodle! Added a spoonful of vinegar and it definitely elevated the dish. Big plump fish balls, generous filling of tau pok with fish paste and of course the highlight was the fish dumpling (herr Kiao) which had a chewy texture and hint of pepper. A winner here.
27 Nov '21 - Another delightful meal. Very consistent in quality and service is accommodating. Parking can be a nightmare so it's better to go during off-peak period.
9 Jan '21 - A big spoonful of vinegar and extra chili did the trick in uplifting this bowl. A bowl of 5 fish dumplings for $4.50 satisfied my craving. Very friendly lady boss, most accommodating.
The attraction is the fish ball. Very big and fresh. The noodle is well cooked. Taste of vinegar on the dry version. 3 star bcos they don't give any veggies for $5. At least some spring onion or beam sprouts. Closed on Thursday.
The flavours are pretty much as I remembered their former Serangoon outlet to be. The handmade her keow (dumplings made out of fish paste with minced pork filling) is as good as before, and the fish balls have an even better bite than I remembered. But the meatballs were a letdown – just much too dense and bland. Still, I'm pretty happy with the meal overall. About the infamous wait: The queues were insane when it first opened (think 1.5hours!), but when I came by for a late lunch (1.30pm) on a weekday, my food came almost instantly.
Fishball noodles are good! The seasoning of the springy noodles is the soul of the dish -- a delightful balance of sweetness, sourness and spiciness, fused with the aromas of fresh crispy pork lard. Love the various types of jumbo-size fishballs too. Just curious why fishball noodles got tau pok? But at $5/$7/$9, it's probably not the cheapest fishball noodles around. If you're driving, parking sucks! Park at will if you're prepared to pay a parking fine or wheel clamp release fee.
Food - hearty fish balls. Good portions of noodle and soup
Ambience - coffee shop style. Self service.
Price - $ - $$. Maybe 2-3x more than most noodle shop.
Parking is bad if during peak period. May have to park opposite at the stadium is peak period.
Very nice fishball and chewy noodle, $5 min.
Nice fishball noodles. Portions are rather big. Evenings may be crowded so good to come early.
Accessible (bus 33 stops right in front, parking lots available nearby), spacious and food is nice definitely.
For me personally it's normal maybe due to me having kway tiao soup. Fishball is big but nothing special but colleagues who had dry noodles said its pretty good. The 2 meat dumplings are good tho.
Rating 5 stars for the fish all noodles. Never disappointed when I visit the Song Kee. Loved the Joo Chiat location, super chill. They moved to 100 Yio Chu Kang Rd. Excited to try the new place!
SO. GOOD. Can we call this artisanal fishball noodles?? It's got tons of different little things going on in there... the her giao is really something else. Noodles are of perfect texture. So good it makes me wanna cry. They also play good music here. JUST TAKE MY MONEY
Average tasting. Fishball is handmade but not to my liking. $6 is too expensive for fish ball noodles.
Nice bouncy fishballs. Always crowded. Love the 80s music. They take phone orders - pay during collection.
The fishball noodles was average. Nothing significant to mention. But clean and fast service. Pricy for
medium bowl.
Public service announcement: stall will operate today (28 Jan Fri) and tomorrow (29 Jan Sat). Reopens on 4th day of lunar new year, 4th Feb, Fri.
Food is nice especially the fish and pork dumplings but they really need to speed up their cooking.
Good and large portions. Sometimes the dry noodles with chilli can be spicy.
Loved texture of the mee pok and especially loved the generosity of fresh ingredients like the herh keow.
A very delicious local fish ball noodle shop. Some of the ingredients are hard to find similar fish dumplings and fish balls in other places in Singapore. The Q degree is quite good and the noodles are cooked just right. I added a little vinegar to make them more delicious. Good because I love to be jealous.
They have three types: large, medium and small. If you order the medium one, you feel that there are a few more ingredients than the small one.
The price is reasonable and there are many people during the meal time.
The only drawback is that it's hard to find a parking space. I parked my car in the parking lot of the stadium diagonally across the street and walked there for about five minutes.
Definitely will be back again to try out the large size noodles.
So delicious and unique
Must try fish dumplings soup.
isinglass
The soup base is delicious. But the fish balls are not up to standard.
One try and no defense
In the afternoon, I arrived here for lunch, which was great!
Food have number of option to choose on type of noddle.. tasty soup..portion consider big for small bowl..
