Reviews of Tanglin Cookhouse (Paya Lebar Quarter)
Had my early birthday dinner here and it was my first time here as well.
The food was amazing however the service made it better!
Appreciate the complimentary birthday dessert, the Mango cheesecake!
We had the Ice Latte, Mushroom soup with truffle oil, beef wellington, Prawn Aglio Olio (Super fresh prawns btw) and the Sticky Date Pudding! All were amazing.
Psssttt: celebrate your birthday (birthday month only) here to get a 20% off your bill!
Thank you to the staff working tonight!
Friend and I walked around PLQ3 just to find out that the main entrance was an unmanned and unlabelled glass door while the side entrance is under their signage. That's besides the point of this review.
Whatever frustration we had dissipated when we saw the wonderful food they served. We decided to get an all-day breakfast item - bubbles and squeak (you can't see the crispy on-the-outside-moist-on-the-inside rosti under the bread, but trust me, it's marvellous) and the mini Yorkshire puddings (exactly how I imagined but more, with the tender beef). What's a Sunday brunch without draft beer? Cheers!
The service was attentive, friendly and efficient. The strawberry tea was delightful. The Butter Chicken with Naan was rich and creamy, with tender chicken in a spiced tomato gravy that paired perfectly with the soft, slightly charred naan. The Pesto Pasta with Chicken & Herbs was fresh and flavorful, with vibrant basil pesto coating the pasta and juicy chicken, elevated by aromatic herbs. The Nachos offered a delightful crunch with crispy tortilla chips, melted cheese, and just the right amount of heat from jalapeños, making for a satisfying and flavorful snack.
Portions were generous but definitely pricey. $90+ for 2 mains and 1 appetiser. There was a credit card promotion for a complimentary sticky date pudding for spending above $90 but this wasn’t conveyed to us and we only saw it after stepping out. A little extra effort would have gone a long way; esp when there were only 3 tables there. Taste wise was average - nothing outstanding, had 3 dishes - beef nachos, butter chicken and Hainanese pork chop and would probably only recommend the pork chop. Not sure why there are so many five star reviews here - this definitely isn’t five star standard.
Nice ambience. Food is above average, i had the tiger prawn agio olio without chilli. Price is slightly steep. Friendly and convenient for kids/infants.
A good lunch, but was ruined by screaming children.. Maybe it's a public holiday.. We had Scott eggs, Yorkshire pudding and beef Wellington.. Would We go back??? Maybe.. Only on weekdays or dinner..
This place feels amazing! Very grand ambience but with affordable prices. Happy with the service and atmosphere of the place. If you are looking for a place with a great environment and yet with affordable prices, look no further!
My husband and I went there to have dinner at about 7pm-ish. We ordered the Wellington, Sunday steak and the Amber specials. It was my first time trying the Wellington and when my husband offered the half of it, I was blown away by how tender the meat was. The pastry was also also crispy and goes well with the meat. The asparagus, cherry tomatoes and the mashed potato on the side provided a bit of a palate cleanser, and went beautifully with it. The Sunday steak was also very tender and melts in my mouth. Overall, the food felt like Christmas came early! Andy was the one that served us. He was very polite and took care of us like royalty while serving 2 other tables. As the seats and tables were placed slightly over an arm length’s away from each other (indoors), it was quite easy for me to hear other people’s conversations. Other than that, everything was perfect! Recommended for any guests looking for excellent service and a chill, relaxed atmosphere with delicious food! :)
Good staff call bell system. The staff were attentive already but having the buzzer also made getting extra attention easier.
Also they gave us a birthday cake and discount for it being my partner’s birthday!
I very much liked the fact that they recognised the concept of free-range eggs. I’m not sure if they use them exclusively but I noticed the belteakfast menu gives upgrade options to Organic eggs that are also free-range.
I went for dinner. Food tasted good. Portion size was good too. Presentation excellent.
Note - they have several promotions so it is worth checking their website for one that works best for you.
Atmosphere was great. I was worried at first that it would be echo-y and noisy but in fact it was quite peaceful (attended on a weekday evening).
Tempted to go back for breakfast / brunch one weekend to try their outdoor seating. (It had just rained when I went so it was too humid outdoors on that occasion).
Happy to recommend. Would like to visit again too.
Relief my memories with childhood tv series: Mr Bean and Powerpuff girls. Food is good, service is good as well 😊 portion quite generous too.
Tanglin Cookhouse, PLQ 3: Who are the people in my neighbourhood? Paya Lebar has commercialised so much in years and PLQ 3 extension panders to both residents and commercial tenants alike. Tanglin Cookhouse’s second outlet at PLQ 3 is a little crammed but has the cute Parisian French brasserie trimmings. Happy hour 1 for 1 is part of the draw - go for the beautifully presented gin offerings. Yorkshire pudding is their signature dish and everything else is palatable. The downside is that the outlet closes at 10 PM sharp. By 9.40 PM, you get your bill and a covert shoo-out. #eatstylishtravelstylish
What a wonderful Birthday surprise from PLQ staff. Many Thanks! The brunch is awesome =Steak & Eggs and Egg Benedict! We will be back!
Nicely decorated place but ambiance can be spoilt by big group that talks loud thru out the dining.
Food selection is good, but a pity that the all day breakfast ends at 5.30pm.
The beer and drinks are slightly over priced (ice lemon tea at $9, small glass of beer at $11). So advice to skip their drinks if possible.
The food are kinda fusion, hainan, western, Singapore so tasted quite unique and nice.
2nd time visiting here and realised the menu changed. So I suppose they are always refreshing their menu.
Take note of the early bird 20% discount, but staff didn’t automatically give discount until you reminded them.
Jerome and the team at Tanglin Cookhouse at PLQ exceeded our expectations!! We celebrated our son's 1st birthday here. Family and friends who came, enjoyed the food very much. The extra touch that made it so memorable were the printed photo of my son - each a photo (Month 1 to 12). Jerome and team also decorated the restaurant to theme! Thank you very much for the extra effort and care! Highly recommended!
Lovely restaurant - walkable distance from paya lebar MRT. Service staff Jerome was very friendly and attentive. I opted for the 2 course set dinner and the pork jowl was delicious!
Good food, relaxing ambience , nice friendly service crew. Thank you Jerome!
Noticed this recently opened Tanglin Cookhouse in PLQ and gave it a go. Positive experience thus far and would be returning to try the Salmon Wellington and Hainanese Stew :)
On this visit, surprising highlight was the Hainanese Kurobuta Pork Chop. Generally I thought "ouh a Hainanese pork chop would just be a thin and breaded pork escalope with sweet sour sauce on it. But, WOW, although this pork chop was, breaded and had that sweet n sour vegetable sauce over it the thickness of that Kurobuta pork chop did not disappoint! Talk about a hearty pork chop, this is definitely one! With a aide of crispy thick cut fries and slaw, it made for a satisfying pork chop experience (: D
Also had aglio polio pasta which had a good amount of prawns and French beans. French beans were a good addition.
For appetizers we had their scotch egg and white rojak fruit salad, which were selections from the lunch set menu. Tanglin Scotch Eeg was delish! Warm n tasty, soft egg in the middle with a enjoyable meat casing on a bed of slaw. The "Rojak" was tangy and enjoyable too, except they could remove a pandan or banana leave place at the bottom for garnish cause I almost ate it along with the rest of the salad sitting on top of it.
Also had the "Singapore Tea" served in a pot and was very nice compliment to our meal. Was a good recommendation by the waitstaff.
Overall was a good lunch experience and would be returning for the other items. Service was prompt and attentive. Nice, classy and comfortable decor. If I were to make a small comment, the plants in the center of their indoor seating is quite and obstruction for both customers and waitstaff.
Very nice place in my hood. Rooms gor improvement.
Definitely need a bus boy. Unglam to have table uncleared after customers gone. Understaffed. 2 good people running the whole front from taking order to serving to clearing tables. So busy that I feel bad to put any suggestion to them.
Some people are not comfortable with tge person clearing the table and serving their food the next minute.
I have the Hainanese Pork Chop. Excellent. But maybe you can serve more sauce on the side, a lot more and none on the crispy yummy chops. Most people who order this definitely wants more sauce. Potatoes wedges as a choice to fries, more authentic.
Their Tanglin Gin Tonic, need to be very cold, so maybe shake in ice before pouring into decorative vessel with ball ice.
Waiting for my Gula Melaka and the ice tea is too mediocre to order again.
Oh it is here, not so good. Better guys melaka please. Also the sago do not break into individual balls, so fail. Think cos over cooked the sago?
Posted this before asking for bill. So cost is estimates.
Dog friendly, the waitress Pony is very friendly and helpful and provided water bowl for my poodle :)
I had croissant breakfast and my hubby tried the English breakfast, both were great!
Perfect for Sunday brunch with your loved ones !!
Food portion is generous, christmas decorations and atmosphere are on point.
21/9
Saw many good reviews on google and decided to come visit on a Saturday noon.
First impression was location was quaint and serene, decor was absolutely brilliant.
Air conditioning was noted to be very cold.
For the price paid for the food, I would expect service levels to be higher but food and service were disappointing.
I.e. upon showing us the seats,
1. We were left to fend for ourselves with the QR code for food ordering
2. There was no offer for iced/warm water, only towards the end when we were parched and requesting that we found out we needed to order it.(And this is the 2nd server that we knew it from)
3. Despite only 2 other tables and largely being empty, the food took almost 30 minutes to come. Even a cup of simple latte we had to wait for 10 minutes.
Generally, come if you want to grab a cup of coffee with a few friends to chat but not the best food for the dollar IMO.
I had lunch at Tanglin PLQ today and served by Deva. She was so friendly and helpful when we are unable to decide what to choose for lunch ! The Iberico pork jowl i ordered was fantastic. It was incredibly tender and full of flavor, with a great crispy exterior and juicy interior. The dish was well-presented and paired perfectly with its sides. Definitely worth trying for a delicious treat!
We came for dinner and ordered the Tanglin Pao Fan. Soup was delicious with a variety of seafood.
Food was nice and delicious. I ordered salmon Niçoise salad and the portion is big. Taste good and salmon was fresh as well. Will definitely come back again in future just for the salad and also other dishes !!
Awesome meal & great service. Love the ambience!
Ms Deva was very helpful with the menu since it’s our first visit. and she’s warm & friendly too! Will visit again!
What a beautiful English themed restaurant with a touch of old school Hainanese cuisine. We were served by friendly and helpful staff. You get to enjoy 20% early bird discount between 11:30-12:30 pm. Two course set lunch starts from $28. I ordered brunch menu item Bubble and Squeak that comes with
Rosti, Fried Egg, Cumberland Sausage, Streaky Bacon, Sautéed Seasonal Vegetables, Roasted Cherry Tomatoes and Hollandaise Sauce. Love every morsel. Rosti is crispy and fluffy and goes well with the bacon and sausage. Beautifully presented in appetising colours.
The Hainanese inspired oxtail stew is perfect with French loaf cut into smaller pieces. The meat falls off the bone easily and is very savoury. For $9 we shared a pot of lovely scented strawberry tea that serves two. Refillable. Reservations needed as it was full house on a Wednesday afternoon.
For those new to this area, PLQ Mall 3 is located opposite Paya Lebar MRT away from the other two PLQ Malls.
Great pet-friendly spot with decent food and excellent service from Pony. Our pup was treated well, as the staff had initiative to provide a water bowl. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and casual meal with our furry friend.
The overall experience at Tanglin Cookhouse was disappointing. I brought friends along because there was a vegan breakfast option for my vegan friend, but they had already run out of several important ingredients even at 11am on a Sunday morning, making the choices even more limited than it already was. The waiters provided sub-par service, and our table was wet when we arrived. Additionally, one of our glasses had water trapped inside and all our glasses smelled bad. It actually made me wonder about the cleanliness of where food was prepared. While the food we did order was alright, it was overpriced. I think this restaurant tries to be what it’s not. Given these issues, I would not recommend this place, nor do I plan to return.
Both staff Deva and Rudy helped serve, take photos and also suppported us in our celebration of birthday. Thank you for the hospitality and great service. The eatery is full but they worked v hard and was prompt.
This is my return visit and definitely enjoyed everything that we ordered. Now this place is my fav dining choice
Amazing food with nice atmosphere.
Lovely place for an afternoon tea. Nice ambience and Xmas decor is up. Great deals for afternoon tea. Ordered the Ondeh Ondeh Cake with 🍵 and the Pain Au Chocolat with ☕. Definitely will be back to try the breakfast or brunch!
Butter chicken was tender and curry was good.
Steak sandwich and roasted chicken was well received. Aglio olio was dry.
However air con is abit cold and there were a few water droplets dripping down if you seat below the air vents.
An unforgettable dining experience with exceptional service. Nice ambience and great food
From the atmosphere to the staffs is over all for me a 5 star! Kudos to Anne who is so sweet and friendly who gave us an exceptional custmer service!
The service crew are nice and friendly. We were served by Pony. She is proactive and flexible. The ambience in the restaurant is good and kid friendly.
I am totally 👍🏼 with their service and patience with us . They even replaced a whole plate of chicken when we told them of the half cooked with no second word.
First time here and ordering is seamless through a QR code and the ambience is nice. Food looks good too and is worthwhile with the set meal.
I ordered the beef Wellington. They forgot to sear the outsides of the tenderloin before wrapping it up with the pastry so the meat looks pink and mushy when you cut into the wellington.
My companion ordered a steak, and the steak's doneness was perfectly medium rare and it tasted great but the sides were quite bland. Beef nachos were quite terrific.
There was a large table with kids screaming their heads off and the food took 30 minutes to arrive.
Some good and some bad things so 3/5 overall
Nice food, ambience and service. We truly enjoyed the dinner and will visit again.
Tried their mushroom soup and signature steak both of which were good. They also have a set meal offer which is quite reasonable!
Great lunch, very friendly and accommodating staff. Thank you, Jerome and team, for a wonderful service.
Expected more for this kinda price and of course to be served water but nope, lol. Food is so so only and the avocado taste weird, too sour
The service staff was really friendly and attentive. Food is really good and ambience is perfect.
Food was good, a modern twist of many classics such as Butter Chicken, Chilli Crab fries. Gin cocktails were great, and the way I like it - strong. To top it off, Anne provided excellent service to make it a wonderful night for my friends and I!
Came here with my mom to celebrate her birthday in a pax of four. The food was excellent and the portions are big. We had the butter chicken, the Sunday Steak and the roasted chicken. We ordered two deserts and they were tasty too. We were given a pounce of nice cake for my mom’s birthday. Will be back again with my friends.
Good place for set lunch
Repeat visit to this place.... Friendly staff and nice environment... Not to mention the great food
Came here for breakfast; Chocolate almond croissant was served w cashew butter and it’s very delicious. The savoury croissant (sausage, egg and cheese) is also nice.
However coffee can be improved, it tasted flat😌
Place is very cozy, staff are nice especially Ms. Pony. Food is worth it. Will come back again!
Decent food on a slightly pricey side. But service is a tad slow and unresponsive.
Dinner tonight at Cookhouse with a friend. Scotch egg was amazing, but the kurobuta pork chop and lamb dishes fell short in execution. Miao, our server, demonstrated attentiveness. She not only provided warm water but promptly switched it to hot water upon our request, even cautioning us about the scalding temperature. Her exceptional service added a positive touch to the overall dining experience.
Their savoury Pao Fan & moist Salmon Wellington are good recommendations. The seafood (a prawn, a half shell scallop & clams) is fresh. The salmon in the pastry are both good compliments of each other. The staff is also attentive. We were told that water is chargeable at a dollar each pax. Glad that they took the initiative to provide water after we ordered our bottle of wine. Both the indoor and outdoor seatings were comfortable.
Enjoyed my meal at this lovely restaurant. The staff were very friendly and catered to our needs
Really good food, fantastic service, and lovely ambience! It's a hidden gem among the hustle and bustle of Paya Lebar 🥰 The local and Western dishes are quite tasty and very nicely presented, and their lunch set is super good value. The staff are so friendly and attentive, they really make sure you have a wonderful time 🥰 Will definitely be back with my friends!
Nice ambience n good food
Great ambience, good service, fantastic food :)
Would come again with friends!
Came here with my colleague for the lunch set menu. Great service staff (deva) and excellent food quality. Had the scotch egg which was the perfect blend of crunchy exterior and soft gooey egg in the middle. Aglio olio was al dente and prawns were fresh. Will be back to try more of the menu!
Had a lovely meal. Service from Ms Pony was very good. We had the Caesar salad and the chilli crab spaghetti. Both dishes were delicious! Highly recommend!
Wow wow wow! Paya Lebar is really hyping up! Chanced upon Tanglin Cookhouse at PLQ3 and decided to have brunch here on Sunday.
Little did I know that there was a 1 for 1 promotion going on for their breakfast sets!
Tried the crossiant breakfast sandwich while my bf had the fungi French Toast.
I have to say I had the BEST croissant in my entire life here. Flavourful, big portion and flaky, just how I like it!
Please do yourself a favour to come to Tanglin Cookhouse and try it for yourself!
Good food good service.
Good food and very nice staff, Jerome and Pony, the manager and assistant manager are friendly and kind. Highly recommend to eat here!
The dining experience was very enjoyable. The server was very entertaining
Lovely cozy place, great service from Anne! Ordered the lamb nachos, pork collar and bread pudding
Food is good ambience is perfect for a family meal!
Great place for a meal in the neighbourhood. Portions are good; quality is good; and great selection across breakfast, lunch, and dinner . Great service from Nandar too!
Portion sizes are good. Ambience is wonderful. Food quality was nice as well.
Lovely food and generous servings! Thank you for the exceptional service!
we enjoyed all they servred fantastic and delicious nice place as well
Great place and ambience
Food is great 😊
Friendly and accommodating staff
The first time I visited, it felt like Christmas came early, the atmosphere was great. Six-star service, menu with surprises, highly recommended.
This is our first time visiting Tanglin Cookhouse. We celebrated my sister’s birthday here and had an extremely pleasant experience. The food was delicious and up to standard, and the portion size was also generous. The staff were all very attentive and friendly. Throughout our meal, they made sure that our glasses were always topped up with water. They also helped to decorate my sister’s cake which we brought even though we wanted to do it ourselves. The staff certainly made our experience here very enjoyable. I would definitely come here again and would recommend my friends and family to come here too.
Enjoyed my dinner here with my wife and toddler. Staff are friendly and food is awesome! Able to host big groups of people as well
Staff only informed us at end of our meal of their house rule. Came as a rude shock as they knew but chose not to be transparent with us up front.
The steak is very nicely done. Juicy and tender.
