Reviews of Teochew Traditional Seafood Steamboat
Beyond Broth: a Heart-warming Teochew Traditional Steamboat |SINGAPORE FOOD
https://youtu.be/ciqMwkaGsAs
Leslie Ang's brainchild, established in 2018, this traditional steamboat restaurant in Joo Chiat has quickly become a favorite among locals and foodies alike, serving up authentic Teochew flavours.
As you step inside, the aroma of simmering broths and sizzling meats envelops you, transporting you to a time when life was simpler. The menu boasts an array of fresh ingredients, including succulent pomfret and red garoupa, expertly sliced to ensure maximum tenderness. Handmade fishballs, crafted with love and care, add a delightful texture to the steamboat experience. Thin slices of Fish Kway Teow, infused with the sweetness of yellowtail fish, gives delight with each bite. Prime beef and Iberico pork slices, cooked to perfection, offer a tender and juicy contrast.
For added depth of flavour, the Sotong paste brings a rich, savory element to the broth. Delicate wantons and meat dumplings, carefully wrapped and cooked to perfection, complete the steamboat experience.
But that's not all - Leslie's creative flair extends beyond the steamboat. His zi char dishes, expertly curated to showcase the best of Teochew cuisine, are a must-try. For instance, the Jade Kai Lan, featuring two ways of cooking in one plate, is a testament to Leslie's innovative approach to traditional flavours.
The steamboat experience is not just about the food – it's about connecting with heritage, culture, and the people who matter most. So come, gather around the steamboat, and let the flavours of the Teochew tradition envelop you.

Been there several times & service has always been great!
Love their Signature soup. Ingredients are all very fresh too.
Great place to host gathering.
We had some beer & brought our own wine with no corkage.
The soup was very delicious and pretty much all the ingredients were fresh and of high quality. The staff who served us provided extremely good service.
Love the fresh ingredients. Can taste their efforts in the soup. I love the local restaurant ambience not so commercialize. The petai condiments is delicious! The porridge soup base sold out fast so have to come early next time. Price is slightly at a high side.
Fantastic hotpot. The soup base taste is unique compared to other big hotpot brands. The ingredients are also fresh and they have lots of other local ingredients that are uncommon like for example clams-seahum, and fish guotiao and etc
No photos for this review and just want to encourage this business and also more people to try this place too
Great tasting food, prompt service. You have the option of soup or porridge base. Ingredients are fresh. We ordered the chicken soup base and it tasted super thick and yum. Reservations are recommended. They also offer other signature dishes as well, the fried tofu was out of the world.
I believed some restaurants in SG have been preserving their method of cooking for generations, each time we dined out exclude hawkers, authenticity is the key, this restaurant stands out, I’m not expert in Teochew steamboat. Usually we listened to our server and obeyed her recommendations, so is yes this n yes that.. turned out perfectly. Must have is prawn paste, homemade beef balls, go with the traditional soup base, and silver pomfret, you can dump the fish bones later for added umami…. Other dishes were so good too. Will definitely return, happy to spend $ here, than places where there is no authentic taste, this one is my top three for now, can’t be any happier 😎 when comes to delicious Teochew food
Quite pricey I would say but the handmade fishball, prawn paste and lobster ball make it worth to pay for. Tau Kee was nice too and different from the one bought at wet market. Only order the pork knuckle if you are into so call "collagen" otherwise just skip it.
This is a must come and try at least once food.
The soup is very thick and tasty. The prawns are fresh. The sliced fish is very thick which hardly find in other places.
Do come with big wallet as they serve quality food. This come with price tag.
Overall the soup is delicious.
Shark head soup not as nice as before. Though the ingredients remain fresh.
They stopped salt baked chicken which was my family favorite :(
Service standard not as warm as before.
The steamboat broth is rich and tasty. Many hand-made surimi and steamboat ingredients.
The live prawns were fresh and had bouncy QQ meat not those mushy taste.
Price is a little high, perhaps good to dine here once in a while for the special occasion.
A good clean place to have piping hot porridge steamboat..their 黄金虾。fried brinja..。n all kinds of homre-made fishballs are good ..the fish porridge steamboat soup are filled with very fresh ingredients ...yummyliciously good
One of the best steamboats I've ever had. We had the signature shark bone soup base. I almost never like to drink the soup off steam boats but the freshness of the soup made me drink a couple of bowls in the end. They have a few recommended dishes that were unique and delicious too. Will definitely come back again.
Food is really good. Expensive but worth it. Go for their shark cartilage soup base. You will not go wrong with their chef's recommendation dishes from the menu. Must order the promfet as it is very fresh. Advanced booking for a table is recommended if you are planning to go during peak hours.
Very attentive waitress, swift serving. The signature broth was good and reasonably priced. Must order its red grouper and fried beancurd (I mean the 炸豆根). The fish was so fresh. Many homemade ingredients to choose from.
Love the fishball. Best I had better then msia. The ingredients are fresh and handmade. Quality and standard a lot better then hai di lao
Been here twice, the quality of ingredients is great! Soup is really good too. Nostalgic atmosphere. Mostly large groups and families
Fresh and quality ingredients in fish soup base. Expect fast service and turnover. Recommended.
Love the soup. The fish slices, fish balls and paste are really fresh. The best is the drunken prawns.
I enjoyed myself very much dining at Teochew Traditional Seafood .The food is fresh and tasty. The service is excellent although the restaurant is full. It is a very Singaporeans kind of place eating place. The locals will like it. Not fine dining. More like coffee shop environment with air-conditioning. Overall experience is GREAT !
Soup no MSG. Fish kuey tiao is good. Items very fresh.
Awesome fish steamboat. You can choose to have the porridge version of the steamboat as well. Kids friendly. Dine during lunch to avoid peak hour during dinner. Soup is really good. Their special blend of green chilli no longer avail as they are overwhelmed. The sambal chilli is really spicy.
One of the very best places for Steamboat in Singapore!! TeoChew Traditional Seafood SteamBoat.
Their Shark’s Bone Cartilage Soup is thick milky and it is packed with all the collagen extracted from the shark's bone after hours and hours of brewing.🥣🥣🥣
This hidden gem is located @ 176 Joo Chiat Road S 427447
You have got to try their homemade Beef balls, steam squid , fish/prawn paste, salted bake chicken, pork knuckles which are their specialty alongside other dishes like, Fresh promfet,, big prawns, deep fried eggplant/brinjal,, crispy pork plate are must try dishes too!! So much good food and so little stomach capacity! 😅😋😆
Love their curated dips and staffs were very attentive 👍🏻❤️👍🏻
Don’t miss this place if you’re a true steamboat lover 🥰😍🥰
1st try after a few recommendations.
We chose the Tom Yum and Signature Soup bases (Chicken & Shark Bones). The Broth was tasty initially, but became rather salty and jelat. We were feeling thirsty the entire night. The ingredients were still alright, nothing to shout about, as for the price we paid ($89.10), we've had better valued ones.
Let's just say we don't foresee a return visit anytime soon.
Really very good quality steamboat better than any big brands steamboat.
The soup is using shark bones, amazingly tasty.
All the ingredients are fresh. Big and juicy fishballs a must try. Black pork($12) and red grouper fish slice($28)
Price is reasonable. 2 pax about $90 spent.
Less one star as restaurant is using plastic plates bowls, utensils instead of porcelain. Restaurant should be using non plastic cutlery and bowls.
The shark base soup is perfect for my taste, like collagen soup and not salty at all. The fish balls, US beef, and aberico pork are fresh and nice. Their steam squid is best! Fresh and strong garlic smell.
I decided to venture after reading it. Price was on the high side, however we could not deny the shark soup was good with all the meat ball, Sotong ball as are on the better side. This would be a "to good" place for me unless someone wants to try.
Best steamboat for me.
Fresh housemade fishballs, very fresh fish and value for money drunken prawns.
Add on their deep fried pork knuckle to share.
Can be quite messy if you choose to walk in on a busy weekend night, better make your reservations.
Unique broth and amazing drunken prawns!
Although they are famous for their soup base, it was really nice. But given their name "shark bone" i was quite startled wondering if i should leave, as the other option is Tom Yam & i didn't have the feel for spicy stuff. Also cause am allergic to shark (always act up when i eat shark fin). Luckily is just a name. I like how they have cockles as one of their dish 😋 4 star for having a recommended dish with misleading name.
Nice soup, items are fresh.
Soup base is dam shioks! and the dishes are all very fresh ! Waitress there also very friendly to intro their signature dishes … 👍🏻👍🏻 very old school 1 pot steamboat . Great for cold weathers 😉
Superb food! Can't believe that I have not been to this restaurant till this evening. I'll definitely return!
Celebrated my brothers birthday here with my family of 9. It was our first time here and not sir eof what to expect. We arrived early and the boss of the establishment took our orders. As the crowd drew in, we could hardly get the attention of any staff to order more food. Now for the food, the soup base was fantastic and a testament of the long hours that goes into making the soup. However the star of the show was the fishballs. It is pricy, but best fishballs I've had in a while. Very QQ and fresh. I would say I enjoyed the meal there, but probably would not go there again.
love the fish steamboat soup base which is very consistent, and always keeping up its standard quality. but fish prices keep fluctuating, so be prepared for the sudden high price.
Had a wonderful meal at this restaurant tonight in Singapore. Went for the fish porridge base, which was absolutely lovely!
Good tasting soup base ( No after taste of MSG), ingredients are fresh and yummy. Sorry to had forgotten take photos for sharing, because busy slurping the soup.
Not bad , authentic Japaness serving
Nice teochew steamboat. Pork knuckle is to die for! Soup portion is generous and tasty. Fish is fresh. Remember to order the handmade fishball and meatball.
I didn't even know this place existed even though I have stayed in the Marinw Parade/Joo Chiat area for years.. the soup for the steamboat is the highlight.. magnificent.. light, delicious and not salty..
The Fish Porridge Steamboat and Pork Knuckles was amazing as always. Staff were friendly and attentive. 9/10 would go again
Delicious and fresh food. Hand made fish balls!! Only thing is that it's a bit expensive. Roughly $30 per pax
The soup in steamboat was so good fish, prawn, fish ball and vegetables very fresh you can’t find authentic like this in Singapore nowadays 😋😋😋😋
The seafood especially the garoupa and drunken prawns are very fresh.. must try their handmade meat balls as well..
Yummylucious steamboat. A must try place.
Expensive steamboat restaurant. I think it is worth it considering the quality of the food and the freshness of the ingredients
Good place for family dinner. Ample parking space. Boss is friendly and service is good.
Nice broth and encourage to do reservation to shorten your waiting time
pricey and not the most friendly staff, but food is fresh and good.
Alot of selection was out of stock when we had our dinner at 7.45pm.
Best authentic steamboat with real fsh meat ball
Love the steamboat there, ingredients are freshly made :)
