Reviews of The Boiling Soup @ Kovan
Been here twice within a month as well because we crave for the pepper pork soup, hands down one of the best hotpot broth we have tried, compare to the big names out there.
What I especially like is the family run concept, no frills, just good old hotpot. The people that run the place are so kind and attentive, it feels like you are dining at someone’s home versus a restaurant.
This place has 2 levels which can accommodate 7-8 tables and the play some old school Chinese music which bring back lots of memories!
Their condiments station is limited however on the contrary, because you have less sauce to play with, you get to taste the food better.
We have tried tomato and also mala but our conclusion is that we will take one broth the next time as the pepper pork soup is their signature, order the noodles and slurp every bit of its goodness. We also tried to be creative and ordered some you tiao to replicate a bit of bak kut teh feel, sooooo good.
I love this Taiwanese style stewed pork rice, generous portions and the stewed pickle veges really taste like homemade I had back home.
The only thing I wish they could add to their menu is dumplings because it will go so well with the broth and if their condiments section has spring onions or coriander, you might find me hanging out this place more often than you thought :)
Haven’t try their ice cream, they have many options available, may be next time!
Great place to have a meal and chill. Atmosphere is great with low volume music in the background.
Wanted to try their claypot rice but were sold out. The friendly owner recommend us their hot pot. Order a set with additional sides.
Verdict: WoW… Oishi….soup were very tasty and the portion is very reasonable.
Will definitely be back again…
Went for dinner around 7pm.
Had hotpot & chicken 🐔 katsu
Pepper bone soup is a must to try for hotpot. I don’t feel thirsty after drinking the soup.
Ingredients are fresh & goes well with hotpot.
Katsu is amazing crisp yet soft having the moist within.
Very good service. My wife mentioned to the lady server about veg not properly washed as a feedback for improvement, she addressed immediately to the service team & gave us a new basket of veg foc.
Liked the music 🎶 especially the Cantonese songs
Will back for their other food 🍱
Had the customized bowl for lunch. Popped by around 2+ and it was nice and not too crowded.
Portion is great for 1 pax - super filling and hearty. Had the iberico pork soup with beef + the homemade pear drink was so refreshing!
Price wise $2 for the drink and $12 for the meal, I think it’s super reasonable considering the generous portion ◡̈
Have nothing but praises for Uncle Vincent and his staff; am posting this 5minutes after leaving because we are blown away by the food and service! We tried the Tomato and Boiling Pepper Bone soup bases, of which we drank many bowls of because both taste so hearty and tasty. Prices of food are affordable and we love the ondeh ondeh and pistachio icecream! Through conversation, we learn that their recipe for soup and icecream are both in-house developed. Staff are very friendly and we had a good chat with Uncle Vincent.
As it was raining heavily, Uncle Vincent kindly lent us an umbrella for my husband to get to the car and even insisted to shelter me to the car. The service is 👍🏻 We will be back again!
really amazing lunch deals and hotpot. love love LOVE the claypot rice so muchh ❤️ can't wait to be back to try uncle vincent's other signature dish & to see auntie Mary's smile ☺️☺️
This is the second time we visited this lovely neighborhood eatery that’s tucked away in a quiet stretch. They are primarily a hotpot restaurant, but offer an alternative set menu which suits our palette more. We ordered the chicken karage set and beef yakiniku set. The chicken tasted fresh and succulent while its thin but crispy crust does not leave a greasy feeling. The beef was not quite yakiniku, more gyudon - savory tender beef strips steeped in sweet caramelized onions. Yummy! You can tell a lot of love and care went into the prepping and cooking. They even pickled their own radish and carrots. This is definitely something rare and missing in most eateries you find these days. I highly recommend giving Boiling Soup a try. We will certainly return for their hotpot next.
We were quite hyped for the place because of all the 5 star reviews, but was very let down by the small servings. The pork bone and pepper soup was really good. One portion of meat is about 4-5 pieces, which is really small for the price (bearing in mind that these are hotpot meats, which are thin). We expected 6-7 pieces, which would have been more reasonable. I consider myself a small eater but ended up having to order more food. Service was good though.
Wow! Love the different flavours of soup! My family and I tried all 3! Thumbs up for the claypot rice. Wonderfully made and very flavourful. Owners are super friendly and makes the dining experience enjoyable. Durian ice cream was rich in flavour too! Will definitely pop by again!
Hotpot with tasty soupbase and gives you the feeling of eating at home.
Particularly love the pepper bone soup, chicken soup and mala. 6 flavours of ice cream to choose; look at the pic, it's 100g filled to brim.
The pepper bone soup isn't overly pepperish, and it has a sweet finishing taste.
The chicken soup has a sweet base.
The mala is soupy and not greasy.
An absolute gem of a place! I stumbled upon this charming little spot while walking around and decided to give it a try. Not only do they serve delicious hotpot, but they also offer a variety of daily dishes. The tomato and pepper bone broth are my absolute favorites and keep me coming back again and again. I believe the restaurant is family-owned, and the owners are the sweetest people—so caring and warm. The atmosphere is beautiful and cozy, making it a perfect place to enjoy a meal.
Do give this place a try!!
Had steamboat lunch with my family and they were very accommodating & helpful as one of my family member was on wheelchair. Their food was fresh and the soup base was delicious, especially the fish soup base. Would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet place for good steamboat
If I could give six stars, I would! Thoroughly deserving of its many positive reviews so far. The soup broth are authentic and you could immediately tell they have been boiling for hours. A place good for the young and old... real cosy atmosphere with their very very hospitable staff. We will be back for sure!
Went down last Saturday to have a meal with some friends and we enjoyed it! The pepper bone soup was great as well as the tomato soup! I like it that I can have 3 choices of soup. The meat was of great quality! The specials were great especially clay pot rice which is easily my favourite! Will be back again to have some boiling soup and claypot rice!
We enjoyed our meal here. It was Warm & Cosy Environment where the service staff were very hospitable & welcoming. Ordered their daily specials, claypot rice & Yakiniku rice. Which we relished, it was homey and comforting.
Was attended by Mary, Vincent and Keith. Simple menu with fresh ingredients, would love to see them expand to more choices. Love the soup just like all others in the reviews. They are attentive, warm, friendly individuals that take very good care during our visit! See you guys soon again 😊
A Cozy little spot with a friendly and warm service team! went to this little place about two weeks ago and was delightfully surprised! My family and I went there for their hotpot, being our first time at the restaurant we were a little lost on what to order, however the waiting staff was very patient and also helped us with some recommendations as well.
Some shout outs for the soup bases would be the iberico pork soup as well as the boiling chicken! these two were my personal favourites, a good drink option that i would go for would be the autumn pear drink it was really refreshing a good pairing for hotpot.
And finally do not skip on dessert, the pistachio ice cream is amazing.
Delicious soup and assorted meats, excellent service and a cosy atmosphere. They had very nice ice cream as well.
Nice Cozy little outlet with very delicious soups at a really decent price point. Happened to chance upon this place and was pleasantly surprised by the food and the service. Will definitely come again.
The gelato was great too!
Super cosy and chill vibes with warm friendly service! We had the pork bone pepper and tomato broth which were really tasty. Will be back to try the other soup flavours :)
Very good food and service! The braised chicken rice is very flavorful and fragrant. Location is also extremely convenient from my workplace.
Visited during the June holidays for lunch on a Friday and had their $17 weekday lunch deal which is a good deal. We had the pumpkin chicken soup and pepper soup, which reminds me of pepper bak kut teh and was delicious. The pepper soup gets richer the more meat you cook in it. Soup is refillable. Agree with other reviews that the soup does not leave you thirsty (no MSG!). Service is very friendly. Take note that only cash or Paynow are accepted for payment. Location is quiet but visible if traveling down Yio Chu Kang Rd.
AWESOME dining place where I can enjoy GREAT tasting meals at affordable pricing and be pampered by their warm hospitality.
Daily n lunch specials are a steal and they are served in generous portion. Love the fresh ingredients for steamboat that are matched with flavourful broth. My favourite : Iberico pork broth is second to none in town n so is their special spicy inhouse chilli. The Japanese pickles are superb too!
Highly recommended place for the WOW experience!
We enjoyed the fresh, yummy and delicious food. The iberico pork soup was exceptional. Thank you Uncle Vincent and Aunty Mary!
Highly recommend their Beef Yakiniku Set. Ordering via QR code was a breeze. Cosy ambience upstairs 👍
The house specials, Karaage and Chicken Chop, are were both fantastic and affordable! Will definitely come back to taste their other foods!
Hidden gem!

Pistachio and durian gelato were fantastic too!
Will be back!

The steamboat soup is delicious especially the pork bone pepper soup .the claypot rice is good too. We ordered one initially n ordered a second serving .
Really loved the variety of soup options served at the Boiling Soup. Especially loved the mushroom soup. Spicy lovers can try their mala soup as well. Ending the lunch with a cup of their ice cream to cool down the soul after a refreshing hot pot is definitely the way to go.
Nice and cozy restaurant. Great for family and friends gatherings. Love their soup base especially their chicken danggui soup. Oh yes, remember to keep some stomach for their ice cream. I love their Pistachio and dark chocolate favors. Will definitely be back again.
We celebrated a friend’s birthday , the soup were awesome like home cooked 😋 freshness in all details. The pot was just simply heaven … I forgot to take photos 😂
Will hv to be back to try the other soups…
Went there for dinner on Thursday.

Enjoy the fish soup so much, no fishy smell at all!
Definitely coming back another time.
Cosy place with good food. Tried their Mala and Chicken soup and it’s simply superb. Friendly environment with very approachable service staff. Reasonably priced. Good place if you’re looking for a cozy gathering of relatives and friends. Will patronise more often. Highly recommended. Kudos Boiling Soup!
Amazing hotpot restaurant with a cozy vibe!! The upstairs area is great for a group of friends and can serve as a private little area. Love the peppery pork soup!!
Liked how the food comes in smaller portions so that you can try a bigger variety of ingredients/meats.
Meals were scrumptious especially the hotpot's soup👍
Staffs were also very friendly with excellent service, will definitely visit again.
Well blended stock for boiling.
Great fried onions for condiment mixing.
