Brother stall of 萤火虫 Fire Flies of People's Park Centre Basement 1. Bought the Vegetarian Rice and Lei Cha Rice. Same standard as before. If I am will visit this stall when looking for lei cai in the Bukit batok area.
Last time they are Thundertree Rice and Fireflies Oraganics Vege Farm owners. Good to see they are back with yummy vegetarian kolo mee. Thunder Rice they not making. I am old customer at people park basement stall.
Ordered and ate item 3 Mushroom Kolomee (Dry, no chilli), noodles taste as good al dente no akaline taste. Mushrooms soft flavourful, vege fresh, white radish soup is calming cleanse the mouth. Portion small if you are big eater.
The photos on the signboard looked promising, with well braised whole mushrooms and sauce covered noodles.
The soup looked extremely appetizing as well.
When it was ready, it was rather underwhelming with pale looking noodles topped with a few mushroom slices, carrots, veg and thick slices of 豆干 ($6).
I thought to myself perhaps the taste would be better, alas it tasted like how it looked. Bland and lacking in flavour.
The soup looked like the average clear soup you get from the usual noodle stall, it was a stark contrast from the pictures.
The taste was too diluted for my liking.
The carrot and yam cake could have tasted better with the traditional dark sauce or chilli.
I sincerely hope the owner will do well and take my comments positively. Altering the presentation and flavour of his/her creations would bring in more vegetarian customers from this area.
When the "marketing" aka signboard gives a higher expectation to customers, coupled with a higher than usual coffee shop pricing and the end product comes out lacking, it usually doesn't turn out well.
Love the clean food of lei cha kolo mee, signature chilli HK kolo mee! Always cannot resist the carrot cake, hakka YTF and fried tempeh that is so good! Do come early to taste the sides as they get sold out quickly
So happy these people made a come back! Context: I first tasted the Chai family’s delicious food at Thunder Tree Lei Cha previously located in Raffles Hospital food court and Vivo City food court, now permanently closed due to closure of their organic farm.
In my opinion, they are serving the best vegetarian kolomee in Singapore. The noodles are cooked al dente/very springy. My usual order is the mushroom kolomee with a dollop of their spicy homemade chilli on the side. Portion runs small. I would order it with extra noodles and extra mushrooms! My husband’s favourite is the chilli kolomee - if you can’t handle spicy/chilli hot food, don’t order this. Their carrot cake is also tasty, best if you arrive right when they just finish frying them, hehe.
Stall gets busy during lunch time and table/seats may be challenging to find. Suggest to arrive early.
To note: food from this stall are all vegetarian without allium (no onion, no garlic).
Excellent vegetarian option! Once again amazed me that vegetarian food can also be flavourful and delicious. Texture of the kolo mee is very springy and it blends in very well with the seasoning. The mushrooms are well braised and tasty. My kids love the crispy crackers in the noodles. For chilli lovers, you must try the chilli, it's superb, a tiny bit is enough to spice up the entire bowl of noodles. Thunder tea rice very authentic, ingredients were generous and fragrantful. Was there at 11 plus and their hakka yong tau foo was already sold out. The stall is located along the coffee shop walkway, if not for the long Q, I might have missed the shop.
Ordered signature chili kolo mee the shop told me to be careful of the spiciness. Indeed it was very spicy but still torelable to me.
Soup was good, sweet from radish and not oily.
Maybe next time can try the lei cha if i’m around😀
Went today to eat their kolo mee but unfortunately they are no longer selling kolo mee as the brother has shifted to Chinatown for another branch. So sad because I was looking forward to the flavourful kolo mee. Ordered veg bee hoon but feels the curry vegetables and brinjal lack the flavour. Taste abit bland.
No more kolo mee here! ; (
Only thunder...
2 weeks ago, I was there close to 2+pm before closing, ordered mushroom noodle as the LC + ytf have sold out. The food is nice! Hope to try their LC soon.
Thunder tea rice is absolutely perfect for me, first time visit, Chai brother is friendly and food was served with sincerity.
