Reviews of Tomi Sushi
Had their set lunch.
It was underwhelming. Looks nice from vid and pic but overall it’s a 4.5/10
If you are very particular and love Japanese food in a deeper level perhaps your palate might be fitting for these but it’s not for me.
The squid initially came in overcooked and they had to replace it with the picture above. It’s very bland in taste. Like covered in bread crumps before frying.
The set lunch was more on the sweet and sour side so it became repetitive and boring. The first bite was quite nice but afterwards it’s subpar at best.
Paid $50 for these, imagine that. Was it worth it? For me no, it’s one of the rare times I regret coming to a restaurant to it.
Service on the other hand was alright.
This is a place where you can go often, the menu is extensive. Before I go on, the food taste is outstanding for 90% of the dishes.
The service at the entrance is attentive and they have Japanese service and kitchen staff. The ambience of the place is classically Japanese, very neat, clean and woody--in the modern sense.
I love the nabeyaki udon, I've not tasted an udon soup that is so balanced, and the udon is so chewy! All the ingredients are so "captured" in the soup, so that it is very wholesome and rich.
The sushi is also very good, the rice is a bit soft. For this aspect the Sens Dining at Holland V is superior, the rice is crystalline and sweet (subtly). The California Make, the Ebiten, Natto Sushi and Inari, is very good.
The Sashimi is fresh, as I was told is dipped in vinegar, so it gives slightly fresh and sour taste (in a good way!). The meat is taut and delightful. They have 2 different soya sauce, one for sashimi and the other for sushi! The fragrance of the vinegar is quite remarkable, unique and memorable. The marination with vinegar gives the sushi a round taste--very pleasant!
The attention to detail is very impressive, the service staff would bring out the food when we have cleared our plates (small table), so that the table is not cramped.
I would definitely go back to this place. I strongly recommend it. For the weekend, please book a day ahead, so that you won't be disappointed.
Very good sushi, and lovely service. We will definitely come back!
One of my favourite Japanese restaurants. Lots of different set lunches to choose from. Food was fresh and of high quality. Looking forward to the next visit.
5 stars - Die die must try! Worth the trip, will recommend to all.
Sits at the perfect food-value equilibrium. You can get better Japanese food in Singapore, but probably not cheaper. You can get cheaper Japanese food in Singapore, but probably not better.
Rice is from Niigata, every grain is delicious.
Tempura perfectly fried. Barely an oil residue left on the paper. They even showed off by “tempura-ing” lotus root.
Soba noodles wasn’t specially emphasised in the menu, but came out amazing. Springy and good bite. Wife: “I cannot eat daiso soba anymore :((((“
Sets were filling, will probably satisfy all except big eaters.
Green tea was complimentary/part of service charge! Good quality.
One note: we ordered Tochioage (fried tofu stuffed with natto, $18). For some reason, expected it to be served freshly fried and piping hot, but it was served at room temperature. Manager explained that this is the standard way it is served. I guess just not a dish to our liking! No stars removed.
The environment not bad. Sitting at the counter is quite a nice experience. The food is quite tasty and fresh just that they missed out my Chawanmushi and I need to keep chasing for it. The price definitely is slightly higher.
Let's talk about the first set of sashimi set meal which includes a bowl of rice, a bowl of Japanese steamed egg custard, a bowl of miso soup, a fruit plate, and a plate of sashimi. There are many types of sashimi compared to the price. There are about 5 kinds of sashimi in total, and the ingredients are very fresh and the taste is very good~
'
The second set is the udon noodle.it includes 2 pieces of fried prawns and onions, and a plate of udon noodles. The fried sea prawn cakes are very tasty and crispy, especially with the sauce. udon is also very Q
I was there for set lunch with my colleague. I ordered the Osusume lunch and my colleague had tempura set lunch. I don’t find the Osusume set impressive for the price of $45. The rice is cold and dry. Overall is just okay for me.
Food was relatively ok, except for the hotpot which was extremely salty imo. Customer service is not great either - service staff kept hurrying us to finish our food so that they can rest.
Super fresh and delicious sashimi. Service is prompt and friendly. For a solo diner, it's very comfortable and there is always room at the counter.
This place is popular even for weekday lunch. We had the lunch sets. Sushi was good and fresh. Affordable and authentic Japanese food
The lunch sets are not a bad deal, but honestly I thought the food was just not bad, nothing too amazing.
I liked their mentaiko roll, and their salad pretty good, but the sushi I ordered was middling. Also tried a bit of the negitoro don and thought it was just average.
Their lunch set is value for money. Food quality, presentation & serving size was much better previously.
Place not so fancy which I like. Plain n simple. Only downside is the staff always looking over our shoulders. As in they can't wait to take away our empty plates. As much as I appreciate it but can be quite unpleasant when I'm in the middle of a conversation. Otherwise, I m still pretty much a regular. Love the food.
Food presentation was excellent! Portion could be a bit more substantial!
Go to place for good sushi at the east! Love their sets and chawanmushi. Make reservations to make sure you get a seat. Their seasonal specials are always worth a try!
Fresh and thickly cut sashimi. Slightly on the expensive end with only 2 slices for a 2 person portion for $48.
Fresh food and i love the chawanmushi! Service provided was good too.
Fish was really fresh and the place really feels like an eatery in Japan 🇯🇵
The standard of food, prepared with native Japanese chefs, is on par with anything you can find on the street in Japan. A very busy restaurant and the staff is usually scurrying about taking and fulfilling orders. Not usually a problem as the patrons are mostly regulars who know the menu very well. Make your bookings early to avoid disappointment and ensure a pleasant experience.
I wouldn't have thought it was possible to have a genuine Sushi experience outside of Japan and reasonably priced. The sushi is fresh and authentic and the vegetarians in my family love the avocado and cucumber rolls. Highly highly recommended.
This place is very popular with locals in the East Coast, so make sure you book ahead. Great sushi selection, equally good drinks although really the Sapporo draft beer is a good choice. Very friendly staff and they quickly treat you like a regular.
Tomi Sushi is quite famous in Singapore for Japanese food lovers. But prepare to pay a premium for this restaurant. Normal dinner for 2 is about $80 to $120 Sin dollars include a drink. If you prefer Chef Choice (Omakase), it will cost about $250 to $300 for 2 include a drink. Food is very authentic and the standard is there.
The food was palatable (nothing spectacular). The service however was a compromise which was surprising in particular during such down time and retailers are expected to provide better services to boost up sales. Not true. It's likely to be a one-off visit for me. Good luck!
Food and service are always consistent and top-notch! Prices are very, very reasonable for all the dishes ... and thus we can't help but to go there almost every week after our massage at Bao Zhi Tang (same floor, also a must try!)
The food we received was delicious however we waited over an hour for some of our dishes and they never came.
Paid what we ate and left.
They shouldn't have food on the menu they can't cook in a reasonable time.
I had tomi sushi 3 years ago and 3 years on, it still have not disappoint. The chutoro was good and definitely way better than a place I had recently. Of course , one pays for the quality and Tomi isn't exactly very affordable but it's definitely value as you have very good sashimi and sushi.
While my partner and I was there, there was a large group of Japanese. Like the saying goes, Always trust a native taste buds.
Had the lunch set, good selection of sushi, tempura, chawanmushi, grilled saba fish, salad & miso soup. Value for money. Good service, staff were pleasant & efficient.
This is my 2nd time eating in this place & will be back for more.
Solid sashimi sushi and authentic Japanese food, mid range pricing, quite a lot of Japanese patrons. One of the better Japanese restaurant options in Singapore. Convenient locations and easy to get seating.
I have been eating here for 2 years and i'm happy with the food quality and the service they have provided. They've one waitress named Sharon. Superb service and very good recommendation from her. Will advise you on what dishes go well with what food etc. Everytime i come here for dinner i'll try to look for her before ordering. 5 stars guaranteed
One of the best place in the East side for nice fresh whole Nodoguro!
Popped over for a quick lunch on a Sunday afternoon. As i was alone, sat at the counter. Ordered the Osusume Lunch set that comes with a salad, chawanmushi, miso soup, 2 x prawn tempura + 1x sweet potato tempura, nigri sushi/maki & fruits (slice of orange + water-melon). The quality of the meal was average. The maguro chutoro and maguro ottoro were disappointing - freshness was lacking. Service was prompt though i wouldn't think of coming back again.
Pretty good Japanese food fare
we thought this was an ordinary Japanese family restaurant. boy, were we wrong!.. The place was crowded and even Japanese patronised the place which must mean the food is pretty authentic.. the food was of very good quality and tasty.. the waitresses were prompt and served efficiently.. i would go back again..
Japanese food here is good as usual. The sashimi is fresh, and other food items are good too. Service here is also good.
Finally stepped into this Japanese restaurant after passing by so many times. great dining experience and lunch menu is really value for money.
Always maintain high food quality standard while dine in everytime. Most happy is the personalised service receive from Sharon.
A little on the pricey side, but the service is good and food is fresh. I come here regularly with my family and we always leave feeling satisfied.
Food is so good. Not cheap, but I will come here all the time because it's that good. Great service.
Service was just alright, could be more attentive. However, quality of food was very good and dishes were generally tasty!
Food is fresh. Service is good. Just a tad bit high in the price side.
Cozy restaurant with extremely fresh seafoods
Very good sushi rice. Everything is fresh and well prepared. Staff very attentive and helpful
Food is good though serving is Abit slow. But definitely worth the wait.
Excellent quality authentic Japanese. Reflects in price ;)
The real deal with great fish list including otoro chutoro and sakes
It's a simple place but the food is really nice
Nice food
Good value Japanese Food
Nice place
Nice Japanese food
A sushi restaurant that I often go to is very popular with surrounding families. If you go there for a normal meal, you have to make a reservation in advance. Fresh fish is shipped from Japan every day, and you can choose from different ways of cooking it. Sushi, udon, and cold soba noodles are all good choices. Eel rice is my child's favorite. Although it is only Taiwanese eel, the meat quality is still good. Green tea is free, which is a small bonus.
It is delicious, in the square next to the Village Katong Hotel....the only drawback is that they close very early
The food quality is average, the price is expensive, and the service is good.
