Reviews of Wan Chai Hongkong Tea Room
Sliced beef crispy noodle was nice, light and crispy. Sauce was smooth and silky. Tomato cheese baked rice on smaller side than expected, taste was allright, though I really enjoyed the soup that came with it a lot.
It was my first time visiting this restaurant, and what was very interesting is that cold drinks must come with ice cream; the price remains the same even without it. This design is quite unique. The taste of the food does not match the price. The waitress (an older sister-like figure) was very friendly and warm, but the service at the counter could use some improvement.
Fill in the chit with your orders and pay at cashier. Food will be served to you afterwards.
Got 6 pcs of chicken wings for 4 pax. Their chicken wings are tasty when served hot.
Got the HK Milk Tea and Yuan Yang. Yuan Yang is better suited for breakfast hours if you’re caffeine sensitive 😅 Milk tea was nice. Bolo bun went nicely with the drinks.
Tried their fried rice, it’s filling but too salty for my liking. The fried rice comes with ABC soup.
The mango pomelo dessert was not bad. Went to their pick up counter to ask for the dessert after we were done with the mains.
This is one of my favourite place for my pork floss toast... I always order the set and by default I always will ask for yuan yang C kosong for my drink! The pork floss toast with butter on top is really a gem! Love it. So much better than the sweet pork floss toast from Toastbox.
I've eaten other food as well such as their beef brisket noodle, yuan yang baked rice, horfun and more! Their quality has been consistent throughout the years.
Great food but service was very mediocre. Payment needs to be made at the counter (cash or Nets only) with your order after seated. Food will be served. Go for their signature dishes and drinks, it will hardly go wrong. Recommend the Portuguese baked rice or the curry baked rice with their chicken wings. Fried rice, XO carrot cake, Crispy noodles all are good too. Quiteeee child-friendly. One thing to note, all their cold drinks comes with a scoop of ice cream.
Dropped in on a Saturday and the place was extremely busy. Thankfully we were seated quickly, having to share a large table with other guests.
We ordered the beef tendon noodles, wanton noodles, deep fries eggplant and a soup of the day. Beef tendon was slightly tough but till ok. Wantons were big, nice and crunchy. Deep fried eggplant was also good, there was minced pork on top and the sauce was good. Only complaint is portions very small but then again prices were not expensive. Would come again if i was in the area.
It was my first time visiting. There were seats available around 3 - 4 PM. I ordered milk tea, condensed milk Bun and crispy noodles with sliced beef and eggs. Out of these three items, I would say the noodles were worth the try. Maybe switching out with other noodles would taste better. For ordering and payment, you will have to mark it on the menu and head to the cashier to pay. There is no complimentary water provided.
Ordered steam rice with chicken & sausages + yuanyang.
I have been patronising since their opening at IMM 100 years ago.
I will do so the next 100 years & more.
Some outlets don't claim since 198x or 196x to be good.
Go during off peak for a relaxing alfresco feel.
Food review usually turns out bad review or pure marketing written too long.
The take away cup is nostalgic max.
Hot milk tea was ok (sugar on the side).. iced lemon tea was ok (low sugar).. wait 15mins for the 菠萝油 was ok.. but the 菠萝油 was not ok!
Haha! You can tell from the picture - resembles nothing to a 菠萝油 in Hong Kong or most Hong Kong 茶餐厅 in Singapore.. I won't even comment on how it tastes.
But of course, maybe everything else they offer could be super.. just not the 菠萝油 :)
We came here on Sunday and the queue was long but fast waiting time. Anyway, I really like the meat texture. It's thick and flavourful.
🌟: Cheese bake rice with pork chop - $12.50
🌟: Tomato noodle with grilled chicken - $10.50
If you are craving for Hong Kong Food, don't go here. It is just disappointment. Price is cheap compared to other restaurants. In general a OK restaurant.
It is a fake hongkong food restaurant. The kitchen is running by ppl who don't eat hk food. They won't understand how hk food should be cooked and eaten.
Price is very ok. Beef noodle is tasty but just the wrong noodle. The meat was ok.
Hk style toast is definitely a lie. But it is also tasty if you don't expect anything hongkongese.
Hot Yuan yang is disaster. Don't order it.
So in General Ok Restaurant to fill the stomach but definitely another fake hongkong restaurant.
Came here around 4pm. No crowd, fast service. Thick toast is super good.
Red bean dessert is thick and flavourful but a lil sweet - suggest to share a bowl with someone.
Milk tea is fine. Asked for less sugar but still a lil sweet.
Chee cheong fun - too little sesame sauce. Tasted fine.
The HK traditional coffee taste awesome and very close to Original HK Cha Chan Teng ones.
The Dumpling Soup noodles taste equally good, the noodles springy to bite!
Overall this one is a good HK taste Cha Chan Teng right in IMM Singapore
Had the beef brisket noodle (soup) but tasted quite plain. The brisket was too soft and not chewy at all. After adding their chili sauce, it still could not bring out the flavor.
Unlike So Good Cha Chan Teng, they added sugar in HK milk tea already. So for those who did not want any sugar (which is not the HK standard), you will need to tell them.
This place only accepts cash and NETs. No credit cards are accepted (which is a surprise in the 21st century in Singapore some more).
I don’t mind paying a bit more when dining in So Good. There’s a reason why So Good is called So Good.
Patronised this long time favourite after a long break, saw that they have renovated it. Possibly to comply with the social distancing rules as most of the tables are fixed.
These days there's a queue to get a seat even just before peak hours. But staff are accommodating and courteous. At least by Chinese restaurants' standards.
Food standards hasn't changed, they're still excellent. What has change though, is how you're served. Previously you will have to get your own utensils and condiments. Now they're served to you, obviously for hygiene purposed. What is disappointing is the limited supply of the excellent sambal chilli. Now, you will have to ask for it at the counter where you collect your drinks and the staff will scoop one for you.
Love the beef brisket noodles (牛腩面), both the dry and the soup ones. The brisket is tender to perfection. You can tell that the soup is made with care and good ingredients. Certainly not like some restaurants that use ready made or mass produced stock. $8.80
Another favourite is the prawn paste fried chicken wings. The crunchiness is at a whole different level. Yet, the meat is still tender and juicy. 3 pieces for $7.80.
Lastly, the Yuan yang. Also some of the best around. You can taste both the coffee and the tea.
Not sure why so many negative reviews. Been frequenting here for many years. The crowd during peak hours speaks for itself.
Yuanyang is consistently good, so is the HK egg toasts which is my children's favourite. Zhajiang Mian also always hits the mark. Will keep coming back.
Crispy noodles were great and portion was generous. Fried beancurd was crispy and nice! Prices are affordable. Will be back again!
Bustling little eatery in the middle of the mall. Surprisingly good HK style food. I’d say the price was average, and the service is very normal (no frills).
I tried there steam chicken rice with Chinese sausage. Taste ok with generous portion. Soy sauce is good as it is a home cook one
Hong Kong milk tea with a free scope of ice cream. Not authentic but taste nice. Like cha latte
Whole meal cost $11. No VAT and Service charge
Nice deal
Chicken wings is great
Lemon rebina?? 40 c for a slice...
Overall is ok.. not that great
I didnt much dine in bt do order delivery much for last 2 years. The soup and cheesebake rice was reason for 4 stars (actually it deserve 5 bt down to 4 cause downgrade by others food menu). Fried carrot cake was so wet like it is wet ckt, ccf was alright and horfun was disappointment on taste part (can get better tasting at zi char outside). what worse was the aircondition suddenly stop working, literrally work out sweat while eating. Saw other tables consistent menu are fried rice, steam rice and prawn paste chicken wing so perhaps just stick to some best seller shld be safe!
Their wantons meat vs prawn percentage is about 50vs50. It will be better if 70% prawn and 30% meat.
Food presentation 6/10
YinYong 7/10
Dumpling 8/10
Wanton 7/10
Noodles 6/10
*Disclaimer: Above is just my personal view.
Ordered fried rice and hor fun, fried rice was fast but hor fun came 20 minutes later. The most ordered items such as fried chicken wings and fried rice get served first. Be prepared to wait if you pick something less popular.
Always one of the must go cafe when in IMM. But I feel the standard has dropped. Dessert options are ok. Price is on the high side.
The highlights for me are the Macau fried rice, seafood Horfun, crispy noodles and shrimp dumpling soup noodles. And of course the star item at this eatery is the crispy prawn paste chicken wings where almost every table will order them. It’s selling at 3 pcs for $8.80. Serving size of the mains is quite small though, where even a lower primary school student will have no problems finishing the meal by himself.
Food tasted good, but portion used to be bigger.
My favourite Hong Kong place in town. On fact it's even better than the food I had on my recent trip to Hong Kong, maybe I didn't go to the right places there.
The food here has been consistently good for me. Love the baked pork chop rice, the fried chicken wings and the ice cream milk tea.
Absolutely yummy, at a pretty good price! Must try the herbal chicken!
I really like the wings and fried rice but the price is getting out of hand...
In front of daiso, pay at the counter, cash or nets only, taste was not bad.
Their iced coffee/tea comes with ice cream. Same price without ice cream... Just hope next time they will have a cheaper option for iced coffee/tea without ice cream..
Value for $$$ and brings back hk style locally 👍🏻
Excellent priced HK restaurant, taste is gd. Some of the dishes come with free soup which tastes excellent which is comparable to paid soups or probably even better.
Definitely a must go if you're in imm. Worth every dollar
Real good hong kong food, have been coming here ever since I was in primary school!!
This restaurant recently re-opened after a renovation and the quality of the food has improved greatly. We had beef hor fun and shrimp dumpling soup (both not on the menu but they will oblige and serve it if you ask), as well as the fried carrot cake. They were all delicious. The carrot cake was well fried and flavourful while the sliced beef was tender to the bite.
Can be rather expensive, Dumpling noodle were nice, portion for bake rice is huge, be sure to try the chicken wings!
Great food! The milk tea is one of the best. Chillie oil sauce is super, not salty. Unfortunately they dont sell it. I understabd its home made. Servers are fast, initiative and honest ( came to my table to return the change that I forgot to take). Definitely a place to return.
Great place for lunch! The Cantonese Style Hor Fun is full of eggy goodness.
Other dishes tried and loved include the Chicken Chop and Tomato Noodle Soup, where the roast chicken's fragrance paired well with the tangy soup and springy noodles. The Crispy Beancurd with Minced Meat Sauce lived up to its name, with the soft tofu hidden inside a crispy beancurd skin and flavourful meat sauce. The Soup of The Day is also enjoyable as well, while the Bolo Bun is best paired with its coffee. Mmm, heaven.
The desserts however left us cold - the Walnut Cream was overly oily and we couldn't taste the fragrance of walnut, which didn't sit well with us. Almond cream was the same as well.
On overall, we enjoyed our time and atmosphere of Wan Chai Hongkong Cafe, whose retro furniture lends it a familiar feel.
Mostly go there drink yuan yang
This restaurant has been around for a long time. The quality of food is very close to Hong Kong standard and so is the service (aka so so only). The price is fair and it is usually crowded during meal time. Come here for a quick fix if you have craving for Hong Kong food. Getting seats can be a bit messy because it is an open restaurant.
Regular patron to this branch for past decade. Enjoyed the traditional ice milk tea with ice cream and their porridge most.
Been here twice and any food we ordered were yummy, even the ice Kachang dessert.
Must try...food is good n price reasonable. Need to q during lunchtime!!!!
ordered beef brisket and it was good.
A value for money eateries. Nice food.
No air con at night in Anchorpoint
Nice foods with friendly staff
Lots of people
Strictly observing social distance is great, the food is okay, compared to another Hong Kong Central restaurant in BOON LAY, the Wan Chai restaurant is cleaner, the price is not expensive, the food is served quickly, but the Central restaurant has larger food portions.
Milk tea~5 stars
Yuanyang~4 stars (a little more sweet)
Hua Dan River~5 stars
Signature fried rice~5 stars
Dry wonton noodles ~ 4 stars (the soup is delicious, the noodles are ok, the wontons are delicious, but the price is a bit expensive)
Soup wonton noodles~3 stars
It used to be delicious, but now it's not as good as before. .
