Reviews of Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine 湘香湖南菜 @Chinatown
My third visit, my parents' first. They came in without expectations, said they weren't all that hungry and would like to share one bowl of rice. Along the way, when they had a taste of the dishes, mum asked for more rice because the dishes tasted so good! Mum even requested for me to bring her back the next time.
Had the pleasure of dining at Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine located in the Nex shopping mall, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish.
What really sets this place apart is their incredible selection of authentic Hunan dishes, particularly their sour and spicy fish stew. The stew is brimming with tender fish fillets, swimming in a boldly flavored broth that strikes the perfect balance of sour, spicy, and savory notes. It's an absolute delight for the senses and had me going back for spoonful after spoonful.
But the real icing on the cake (or should I say, the free ice cream on top) is their generous hospitality. Not only do they offer an extensive menu of Hunan specialties, but they also provide complimentary ice cream and snacks to all their guests. It was such a pleasant surprise and really elevated the overall dining experience.
The service was also top-notch - the staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and happy to provide recommendations on the best dishes to try. I left feeling completely satisfied and can't wait to return to explore more of their mouthwatering Hunan cuisine.
If you're in the mood for an authentic and flavorful Hunan dining experience, complete with free treats, I highly recommend checking out Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine at Nex. It's a true gem that deserves all five stars.
Hunan stir fry pork spicy oily but generally good if you can take spicy. Claypot tofu texture springy not common found elsewhere. Antler mushroom chicken also one of the popular dish tried. Overall great taste and member have special price on selected dishes. Free access also to tidbits and ice cream.
ordered the sour veg fish, pork stir fry with veg ( their in house speciality) and spicy meat with bamboo shoot. Food is fantastic and delicious, service very prompt and cheerful and price not too expensive. Would be back for more ....
Service is prompt and food comes out quickly. Candles keep some of your food warm for a longer period of time. Snacks and ice cream freeee 🤩
Foods taste good but the customer service even better. Free flow ice cream and snacks but only for in-house dining, no take away allowed.
flavours were bold, ingredients were fresh, wonderful service as well.
claypot vermicelli was fragrant and flavourful with the mix of pork lard and salted egg yolk, looks simple but the flavour profiles were so complex and ingredients nicely elevated each other.
fish soup was light and refreshing, proteins were given generously as well
pork ribs was tender and well marinated too
will definitely come back for more
a great place to bring guests. food portions are generous and tasty without being too oily. the century egg dish is the star of the show.
Had a great experience at this outlet. It’s different from dongbei food, more on savoury flavours and less “mala”. Food was better than another outlet we went to. Fast service too.
My first time at Xiang Xiang and was super surprised by how yummy the food was!! Love the Sour Veg Fish soup and Omg it was super appetising!! Fish was also very tender 🐟 Hunan Stir fry pork was also super flavourful while the chilli pig ear 👂 had a pleasant crunch to it. Only thing was the century egg with chilli - I could taste only mostly the chilli but little century egg 😅
One of my go tos for Chinese cuisine! The claypot dong fen is a must!!!!
Service was good. Food came fast. The food was really tasty and atmosphere is clean and welcoming:
The white rice here just taste crazy good already! Love the signature stir-fry pork. Friendly staff as well
This place is amazing. Top notch Chine food, beautifully spiced. The main pork dish was stunning and the beef with tiny red hot peppers 🌶️ was yum yum. The lemon ice tea is super sweet but tasty.
This place is spotless You must come here. DELICIOUS.
Dishes were served promptly, very efficient. Most of the dishes are delicious but the pig intestines were lacking in flavor. Other than that, no other misses.
Would recommend the tofu dish, goes so well with rice.
Second time coming here. Nice food, doesn’t taste too heavy. Membership free $60 with $600 top up. Recommend the 酸菜 pic4. But crowded during peak hours hard to find parking.
I love the food so much. The culinary experience surpassed expectations with delectable flavors. The staff's warmth and friendliness added an extra layer of joy to the dining affair, creating a delightful atmosphere.
Good service and good food!! Reasonable pricing for the portion of food. Highly recommend if you’re craving comfort Chinese food!
An excellent human restaurant. The Hunan Stir-Fried Pork was great and the spicy pepper chicken (laziji) was one of the best I have ever had. The giant lemon ice tea and the steamed rice were also perfect in complementing the meal.
The food tastes good, the service is excellent, and the environment is also very good. I recommend it!
Strongly recommend the mixed pickled chili with century egg. This may be the best dish out of the 5 dishes we ordered. Don’t be fooled by its appearance!
Sichuan spicy fried chicken and stirred fried sliced pork also not bad. Will order them if I visit the shop again.
Can skip their tang hoon and pickled fish…
Service: It is good and fast
Vibes: the restaurant is bright and clean compared to other authentic Chinese food restaurants around.
PS. Highly recommend to sign up their membership to save additional $$ and don’t forget to grab some free ice cream before you leave 🤣
Led by the reviews we went to this place for a dinner. The reviews did not lie - this place is absolutely excellent!
The food is excellent! One of the best or actually the best food we ate during our stay in Singapore!
As to the service: first of all ms Sammi is EXCELLENT. Friendly, professional and extremely nice, she provided us with very good advice on what to eat. The rest of the staff was also extremely friendly and helpful.
we booked tonight to celebrate birthday. Ordered 16 dishes all are soo tasty! Definitely thanks for the heart warming serviced by 秀惠
Came here with a group of friends. Food is good and not too spicy. The Chairman Mao dish is abit sinful but taste great. The meat kinda melts in the mouth. Beer is very affordable. Service was fast. Will come back again to try other dishes.
Food n service is good. Very crowded. Must make booking.
Great food and everyone enjoyed very much
This spot serves Hunan cuisine which features an abundance of fresh vegetables, chillies and river delicacies such as bull frog and freshwater fish, packed full of flavors.
Some of the interesting dishes include century egg green chillies which featured a staff by the table-side pounding the mixture in a vessel, to diners delight.
Chilli Fish head was a huge portion although the flavours were rather one dimensional, it was mostly fresh spice from the red and green chillies and soy sauce, definitely could use some acidity or sweetness to balance it. Plus it was very bony and scaly which was distracting due to the shell-like texture of the pounded chillies.
Other dishes such as the fungus and pork stir fry had a nice smokiness to it. Laziji was standard, liver and beef stirfry dishes were excellent. Marinated crunchy pig ears in hot oil and coriander was also great.
Service was quick and attentive and the rice served in the cooker/warmer by your table was clever as it kept them fluffy and hot.
Excellent food, service and value! We really enjoyed our meal here. Highly recommended! We had their signature pork dish as well as some amazing stir fried beans and chili beef! 🌶️👌
Wonderful dining experience. The ingredients used are really fresh! Absolutely a delight to dine here. Love the Hunan Pepper Pork, it's their signature dish! And the spicy fried chicken is superb too!! A must to visit again for sure!
Had the fish head, very mild spice level, but flavorful. Fish is fresh. Cabbage is crunchy and savoury, can down with more than 1 bowl of rice. The pumpkin pancake is the perfect after meal dessert.
Price wise, affordable. Staff is friendly when answer our queries about the dishes.
Staff are friendly
Environment clean and need
Food taste fabulous
While the food is pretty good, the price and service are not. The food can be quite expensive and talk about services, personally, i do not like the idea of up-selling orders. Waiters have been suggesting us to order a more expensive alternative multiple times. She keeps repeating even after we politely reject her. The same goes for the cashier which keeps on promoting their membership. This model of business is flawed from the business planning department, thus I don't blame the staff, i blame the management and the system.
Really nice place, great customer service, well tasting food!
Hunan food at its best in Singapore. Service is fast and furious while atmosphere is causal and noisy. For those who love good rice 五常米 with savory dishes, this restaurant is highly recommended. Must book table beforehand.
The food is excellent 👌
My mum who is very picky about food also love the food.
She love the steamy white rice so much that she nearly finished the bowl before the dish is served.
Too bad the waitress is not very attentive, we have to raise our hands numerous time before they notice.
One comment is that this place is not wheelchair friendly.
Will be back again.
First time dining here & overall satisfied with their service. Staffs are attentive here. Best dish is the hunan xiao chao Roy 👍
The service is great! Xinya is very patient, even helped me wash the strawberries 🍓 thank you all 🌷🌼
Absolutely delicious Chinese food! We waited for about 30mins for a table on Sunday evening, and the wait was well worth it. You'll have to join the queue by scanning the QR code on the door and you'll receive an automated call when your table is ready.
The two of us ordered the signature pork slices ($22) which were yummy, though really quite spicy. The stir-fried eggplants ($15.90) were mildly spicy and tasted like French fries, and the crispy tofu stuffed with soy milk side-dish ($9.90) did not actually contain soymilk but were great nevertheless.
It’s my first time dining here. Remember to join in as member to enjoy special member price. The food here is very good, do try xiaochaorou, niuwa!! The service is great.
Great service. Need to queue a while. Have free flow snacks and ice cream. Pumpkin pastry no long available. Food are of good quality, have the michelin feels…. Like the cauliflower most , fragrant. Century egg chilli is spicy and manageable. Fish took about half an hour to serve, a lot of thin bones, spicy in a wasabish way…. Will come back again to try others… total $70 for 2 pax
Came for second time and tried the signature dish not too bad , but the tofu can give it a miss, nothing special
Food is good, place is spacious and service is great!
Crowded but quick with getting a table on a busy evening… just have to book thru phone right at the door step. Everything else is good…
Very packed on friday nights. Do make a booking before. Overall food was pretty tasty! And generous with portion. Personal fav was the minced meat with chilli padi
Good good n fast serving
Baby Lobsters, Fungus, Sour Spicy Cucumber, Spicy Bullfrog Pot, Spicy Pork Tripe, Chairman Mao Braised Special meat, Shredded Potatos. I usually have low expectations for Northen China Food so if it's good enough, it usually scores well easily. The dishes here were generally quite good especially the Braised special pork and the spicy bullfrog pot!
Congrats on the reopening of this restaurant! The staffs were good and fast!! And the food is still as wonderful and spicy!! Really one of the place to go for Hunan Xiang Cai!!
Comfortable environment, happy dining with friends. Excellent service. Perfect food
Our family chanced upon this 湘菜馆and it’s really fantastic, highly recommended, will come back soon.
Food was great. Super crowded, had no luck with making reservations so i went early to queue. Worth it if u can go at the right time.
The food is nice. Not overly spicy. Highly recommend.
Food is nice!
Service is great!
Great food! Have been a frequent visitor of this restaurant, the taste has been consistent. Good place for dinner with friends.
The food was delicious, served well, clean, and most importantly, a big glass of water, a side cake.
Food are nice, better then many other 川菜,not so oily, not too salty, very local friendly dishes. They have mostly must try dishes, never had a 酸菜鱼that the fish meat need some effort to bite and the fish skin is chewy.
Love the food! Simply very flavourful a
Food was served quickly and was fresh and hot. Customer service was attentive. Overall a pleasant dining experience!
This is one of the best Hunan cuisine you can get in Singapore. Nice comfy setting, friendly and helpful staff. Signature dish is definitely their steamed chilli fish head, and will be great to add some noodles into it. Dong Por Rou (Braised Pork) is superb as well, their long beans fried with black bean and chilli is super yummy and savory. My fave to end the meal is also the pumpkin pastry..soft, slightly chewy, great texture and taste! Must try!
The Friendly staff, Yi Jun was very helpful and responsive. The food were great and deliciously good.
good vibe of atmosphere and food and drinks and authentic taste of china food
The best Hunan restaurant in Singapore. No "one of".
The signature Hunan stir fry pork is to die for! And other dishes are also excellent. The cauliflower dish is simply amazing.
Very delicious Chinese restaurant in Singapore especially the fish spicy hot soup and stir fried lotus 👍👍👍
I would rate Joanne the waitress with 5 stars as she provide us very good service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of the best and longest serving Hunan restaurant in Singapore. Have introduced it to a dozen people of various nationalities and everyone loved it. Good quality authentic Hunan food never fails to impress!
Pictures of dishes from my past visits here.
Highly recommend!
Lovely very authentic food. Apart from the duck which was on the dry side the other dishes were delicious 🤤
Quite ok Chinese cuisine. Hunan style. The meat can be better. Fish is ok. The rest quite normal standard.
Nice food .. big portion
The restaurant offered a delightful dining experience with a diverse menu, attentive service, and a pleasant ambiance. The flavors were well-balanced, making it a worthwhile visit.
Very good food and service.
Come here with friends many time, very glad with their service and food quality.First try their abalone chicken soup, but the soup taste very light, the rest of dish very tasty. The shop manager 寥小星 found that we don’t drink much abalone chicken soup,he come and understand what is the reason, after that he tell kitchen about this feedback and straight void the abalone meal.寥小星has very good at observation customer and shop status. Definitely will come back again.
Seats abit tight. But super good food and drinks. Clean environment as well.
I like the li yun service she was very good ! Friendly and very helpful. Food was nice very delicious.
Absolutely delicious!
very good taste, nice price, delicious, will come Again.
food is very nice. waitress also was really helpful. food was really tasty too, kudos to the chef! would definitely check this place out again.
Food was fast and delicious, staff was very in the ball, and price was reasonable.
Good: Spicy (though much less spicy than authentic hunan cooking)
Bad: Quite expensive
Fantastic food, friendly service, and authentic Hunan flavors. Will come back!
Tasty food and attentive service!
Good ambience, nice food for gathering with big family group.
Polite and great service staff. Food is great as usual
delicious, will come again!
Best food ever.
My favourite restaurant 😋
Yummy!! Must try! Shop is full house most of the time!
Yummy food! I like the steam egg and chicken soup!
This is the first time I came here to eat with my good sisters. The food is so delicious😋The waiter Chunhong’s service is enthusiastic👍 I will come to her again next time🥰
The food is great, tasty and tasty
There are still many delicacies that I haven’t photographed yet.
Will come again next time
The taste is great👍The environment is also good, the waiter is very enthusiastic and gave me a cute little balloon!
This Hunan cuisine is definitely worth trying! Delicious and affordable, the three of us ordered 6 dishes for just over 100 each, and they were so delicious that we ate them all! Recommend the spicy chicken and stir-fried pork, not spicy but very fragrant!
I am a member, regular customer, fan...
From rice, side dishes to vegetables and staple food, it all hits my taste buds, making me want to stop eating and turning me into a rice queen!
I ordered Hunan stir-fried pork and dry-pot cabbage. As a native of Hunan, I still felt that the stir-fried pork was not spicy enough.
Visited a few times before, easily one of my favourite places! 😋Recommended
• Stirred Fried Pork (a bit spicy & super good | tip: tilt the pot so that the oil flows to one side)
• Fried vermicelli (with salted egg)
• 辣子鸡 (spicy chicken, this branch does it well)
• 800ML Iced lemon tea (if you don't like it so sweet, ask for ice water to mix it with!)
Misses for me: the eggplant was not as soft & not marinated as well as in other branches | it was quite noisy during dinner time
Another tip: They have a credits system if you come often as the credits expire in a year. Helps to save some money as they give you some credits (but it is an investment e.g. pay $500 for $600)
But service was top-notch, very nice people! ☺️
The food is delicious.
Xiao Yu service good.
Tofu is very delicious n special
Xinya's service is very good, every waiter has a good service attitude, and the food is delicious
