Reviews of YAYOI Japanese Restaurant | Waterway Point Punggol | Teishoku | Tonkatsu | Chicken Namban
Went on a sun afternoon, store was not very crowded as compared to its neighbours. Overall experience was okay but i guess we ordered the wrong dishes..
The curry katsu rice was decent, but the sukiyaki wad kind of too sweet. Mixed grill was nothing special and had the super longest waiting time. We were almost done with our meals already and it hasnt arrived.
The best part of the meal was the chawamushi that came piping hot haha. Their sashimi was good tho.
So i guess i would be back but hopefully make better choices next time!
Saw good review and we decided to try.
We only ordered 2bowls ramen, 1 chawanmusi and 1 spa egg, cost $45.
Soup base and noodle texture nothing fantastic, just normal
The cha shu is hard, don't have those melt in your mouth feeling.
I'm not sure if the high review is meant for other menu but for ramen, I think not worth the money.
But I would like to compliment an elderly waitress working on sat luncht hr. She was very nice and really did her job well by introducing us the food.
Food wise 2 star.
The additional star is for the elderly lady :)
The restaurant staff Mr Simon is very patience to introduce your restaurant, recommend and assist us in our ordering. This is our 1st time dinning in your restaurant bcos of Mr Simon wonderful service and great attitude that attracts us. We are impressed by Mr Simon excellent customer service and attitude. Thank you Mr Simon 👍🏼
Decided to go back to our old house today and drop by Waterway Point to grab dinner. Tried Yayoi as my wife said it is good. Order their famous mackerel.... This fish is good! Tender light refreshing tasty fish together with their soft fluffy rice is a good start to the weekend! But bones are plentiful so you need to be a good fish eater.
Overall is an easy 8/10

Just have a wonderful dinner with my friend this evening. The Menu has a wide varieties of japanese style foods, We order two set of Saba Shio Teishoku and a Tofu salad. For beverage we order a pot of Houjicha.
The Saba fish is fresh and well cooked and with no fish bone, the taste is perfect.
Great service from both the senior staff. The aunty server was very helpful and introduced us to the restaurant speciality. She also gave us additional serving of rice and soup. The uncle server helped with the serving and ensures the table was properly cleared so the big dish was properly placed.
Excellent service by this server lady Pornyupa. We came as family of 7, and I was the one who reached the restaurant first
Pornyupa has politely ushered me to the seat and has patiently explain to me how their set menu works as it’s my first time visiting the restaurant.
Food was promptly served and the quality and really good and fresh.
Pornyupa has also come about regularly to check with me on our food, and if we need anything more.
I am really impressed by the level of service quality here.
Will definitely come back again next time!
Decided to go for Hitsumabushi for lunch so that I can have it in 3 different way to feel like I am having more variety in this meal. It’s pretty shiok, firstly, to have it as original as it is, secondly to have it with the condiments and lastly to top it with the dashi.
I also ordered mentai mayo tamagoyaki to add on to my daily protein. This side dish is disappointing as the mentai mayo doesn’t look like it was being torched as it supposed to be thought the tamogoyaki itself look slightly charred. It was also pretty salty on its own thus i had to go with the rice from the hitsumabushi to finish them up.
Server Pornyupa is friendly & well introduced me with the menu , she is a Star in ur Corporation
Satisfying meal to enjoy with your loved one. Delicious meal, worth the price. Thanks.
Tried the Hobayaki Zen. Magnolia leaf grilled with wasabi miso sauce and meat with rice set. I like it very much. Stimulate your nose and mind :)
Good food and good services. The service staff share a lot of info regards about the food, ingredients and background. He will also come and ask if I need anything or top up soup for me. Thanks to all the staffs. Will visit again.
Nice place to eat at! The staff were super friendly and helpful, ready to advise us when we had any questions. The food was great too! Food was prepared quickly and delicious!! Would definitely recommend to my friend and peers to eat here. Steamboat was very full with ingredients too!
Should come here during off-peak hours. The food was great. The tonkatsu of my teishoku was thick, crispy and delicious. Not greasy, not soggy. The sauces were pleasant too. Rice was free-flow.
Food and serving size was good. Service-wise, the older lady (Pornyupa) was very attentive and provided good recommendations of the menu items.
Ordered their karaage set, comes with sides dishes like salad, preserved vege, miso soup. Quite decent taste similar to what I tried in Japan though the price is a bit steep. They are understaffed during peak hour as observed.
Today's lunch @yayoisg , my appetiser before main. I brought the boys out for lunch. The nice aunty recommended this meal said it can be shared with my boys.
Really, it was enough after I added a green tea (for myself), mini saba (for myself) and another salmon sashimi (for myself) 😂. My didi wanted udon so I switch the rice to udon for him.
One awesome feature of this place is ....free refill of rice, pickles or soup. So good right!!! So I had 1 full rice refill and 1 half rice refill to feed 1 adult and 2 kids.
Actually, I was extremely full. I couldn't finish the salad. I shouldn't order mini saba nor extra salmon sashimi. Very worth for money meal. 🥰 Thank you aunty for recommendation.
Compare with other Japanese restaurants, well, this one a little high side interm of pricing. If you are too hungry, please do do dine in here, as the menu you add on and add on will not worth the price.
We ordered a DIY Kaminabe Zen Set $24.90
(picked all the $0.00 add-ons)
Set came with :
3 slices of Salmon Sashimi
2 pieces of Ebi Tempura
A bowl of Salad
Chicken hotpot (with a variety of different mushrooms, onions, cabbage and shredded carrots on top for garnishing)
FREE FLOW
Japanese Rice (self-service)
Pickles (self-service)
Miso Soup (order from ipad)
Total cost $29.58 (GST, Service Charge included)
I'm surprised they allowed us to share and both of us to go for the free flow. (I asked and double checked coz usually its like a per person thingy)
Photo was taken halfway through the meal, coz I forgot.
Set lunch promotion is good. 2 bowls for $20 after tax. Rice and soup free flow is good to have. Thanks!
When i first order the Kani Nabe i was very excited as there are 3 variety of meat that you can choose from. The sides also have alot of variety and 1 set cost around $30++ which i think it’s value. Aside from that I also ordered a grilled ika which is around 19++. The grilled squid is very chewy and fresh. 10/10 reccommend and would come again!
ever since the change of menu,, super less options now. i used to order 2 mini bowls, now don’t have mini anymore. downhill ever since change of menu…bring it back pls
its not too bad and they let us sign up for free member to get free drinks which is pretty sick
a helpful staff is excellent
Food is good but staff likes to clear things away too quickly when the restaurant is quite empty. They took away the wet tissue I was still using because I was still eating, so that when I finished eating, I had no more wet tissue to clean up. Wish they would do something about that - good service is not all about clearing away things quickly, but paying attention to the needs of the customers and acting as necessary.
We would like to compliment one service staff named Ms Pornyupa for her good service and attentiveness while serving us. She also gave us good recommendations on what to order. Thumb up for her and we will definitely come back again..
Visited few other outlet before but waterway point gave me the best services. I was confused by the new menu, Catherine introduced us how to place order for DIY menu in details and she is really patience. She will make an point to check on us ensure that we were good. Her professionalism has made me wanting to come back to waterway outlet. Keep up the good job!!
worth every dollars spent!
Simon is a dedicated, patient and passionate staff who is willing to go the extra mile to introduce the restaurant's specialties (pretty rare in current service line). On top of that, he regularly checks in with the customers to ensure their food is well-served and they are satisfied with the food. Other than the service..the food is great as well and the serving is definitely generous! We've enjoyed the experience here and will definitely recommend it to our family and friends.
Had dinner here with my family at around 5pm and was served by a very friendly and tall server. He recommended their teishoku menu and absolutely adored the pork hoba yaki teishoku with the wasabi miso paste, only pity was that it was a small steak and couldn’t have more! 🥺
The male server also let us try their new unreleased sides, a baked mushroom with butter sauce and lemon for taste and review. Nice assortment of mushrooms but butter was not fragrant enough and lemon didn’t go well with the dish! Would love if it could be pan fried with rice wine and a savoury sauce to complement the mushroom dish.
Overall would recommend this restaurant if you’re looking to have a hearty and filling meal since their meals always come with many side dishes!
Average tasting japanese food at a high price point. Ordered 3 sets without drinks costs an average of 20+ per set after taxes. Used to be value for money, not anymore.
Food was amazing just that the wasabi sauce was too strong in the hobayaki.free flow rice and miso soup.the server's were amazing.
There was a set lunch promo at Waterway Point. The food was pretty good with refillable rice and miso soup. One thing that attracted me to patronize this store was the service staff Mr Simon. He was very friendly and enthusiastic with his service and has brought me an interesting dining experience.
Enjoyed the food and service here. Simon, one of the full time staff here takes ownership of the restaurant (Waterway Point), very personal with his guest experience and is always on top of things. He would check in with my table and other tables as and when we are about to consume our food and after we finish our meal. He would also provide guidance in anything we are unsure of. Appreciate the service and experience, Simon!
The food was alright, not the type that would surprised you or make you desperately want to make a second visit. But the ambience was good.
However, the service has lots of room for improvement. Firstly, they forgot the order from my table. When reminded, they immediately rectified the problem (good initiative) but did not come back for a follow-up until much later.
Total of 2 orders, first order was served. Thinking that the second order would be served soon, I waited for another 5 minutes, and nobody served. Checked the ipad and only found out that they clicked all order served. Again, I checked with the waitress, and again, they repeated the same process.
Whole waiting time accumulated to a total of 40 minutes. Now, I wouldn't make a fuss if the restaurant was fully packed as I fully know that it's going to be a long wait. But no, the restaurant wasn't fully packed to begin with. In fact, there are a couple of empty tables that were not seated in when we made our orders. The whole triggering point of the situation was the fact that they pressed all order served when it's not, showing a lack of communication among staff.
However, I would still like to applaud the good handling skills of the manager (I didn't catch her name) and the good initiative to rectify the situation when confronted.
I would still recommend the place for a good relaxing meal with your friends, but just make sure to check on your meal from time to time on the ipad to ensure all meals are served on time.
Good to have a salad buffet but the tongs are kinda small and hard to use
My son like the Hitsumabushi he ordered. My mix grill teishoku was not good - meat were dry and tough especially the pork. Only thing I like about this place is the dishes were both plated well.
Love to dine here! The staff here are really friendly. Food is great too!
Lunch set is not bad. Karaage and saba are tasty
Food was pretty good, above average I would say, but wait was very long, my mother had finished her food by the time I received mine. The air-con was turned down and not working which made it rather uncomfortable. Would return again to see if there is improvements but would not recommend.
Friendly staff - Pornyupa, recommended dishes for us and we absolutely loved it! Her service was very nice and made sure to check with us about the food. Very satisfactory experience.
My wife and I just had a lovely dinner at Yayoi Waterway point.
The wasabi miso chicken set was excellent. We were hosted by a server named Simon. Outstanding product and operational knowledge meted out by Simon. He made the whole dinner experience so comfortable.
Signed up as a member on their app and will definitely patronise again.
One of my favourite restaurant in Singapore, especially Waterway Point outlet
Came for dinner with child near 8pm. We're greeted by a cheerful staff. My chilled udon is delicious (my child's ramen too, according to him). Throughout dining, we received good & prompt service! Well done to both service & kitchen team!! 你们很棒!
The service crew here are awesome. Even in peak hours. They still do their best to service us.
First time trying this Japanese restaurant as planning to buy Udon for my 3 yo and through the recommendation of the friendly staff, Pornyupa tried the other dishes and was pleasantly delighted. Will come again and thanks again Pornyupa for your friendly service and recommendations 😀
Nice Japanese food. Tried the salmon teishoku, the teriyaki sauce went well with the rice, and the salmon was juicy and in big generous chunks. Also had the combination pork cutlet, prawn and beef teishoku and it was delicious and super filling, essentially a tasty omelette with fried pork cutlet, prawn and beef slices in a hotplate, interesting dish I've never tried before. Tea was houjicha, pretty good too. Friendly staff and spacious clean restaurant. Good place for a family meal.
Salmon is juicy and delicious.
All good though tonkatsu is a bit small for its price as compared to other tonkatsu restaurant.
Food is good, service is good too but a little strange when one of the staff tried to recommend a dish to me (which I don’t feel like having as I already had what I wanted in mind), she went on and on about ordering the hotpot looking dish and explained the seafood option, the scallop option… was quite long winded. She told me not to order the seafood option as it was too expensive. After I politely told her I’m looking to eat something else she continued to emphasise on that same dish (which I’ve already told her I don’t feel like eating that today).
When she came to clear the menu she had a slight irritated tone to her voice, which I would say was unnecessary. I’m here to dine and have what I wanted I should not have to feel pressured into anything.
Your waitress Pornyuka gives good customer service. The dish she recommended Pork Hoba Yaki is delicious. She's got good taste. She's friendly and attentive. Thumbs up.
Went lunch with my famiy member and we were welcomed by smiles which make our day! Catherine has patiently explained to us of yayoi popular dishes and indeed made the whole dinning experience awesome. She is a gem. Thanks for everything!
Actually enjoyed the food and service but my comment is that sometimes when i come to the restaurant i see the young male staff running from the back to the front especially during busy hours, attending to customers, clearing tables and tending to the cashier. I feel quite bad for him, though i see other staff also try to clear the tables, he looks quite overwhelmed at times. I hope that the restaurant can improve the training of the other staff so that they can better help each other with their tasks
Food ok with a nice environment. The old lady staff is very polite and will try to explain the recommended dishes. The servers are polite and serve the food with expected eagerness.
If the cashier by the name of Catherine can improve her attitude , it will be a more pleasant place for dining. While making payment, she kind of raised her voice with some degree of impatience. I might have to say she has spoilt my dining experience.
food & service was really good! and they have free flow rice and soup too! worth the price
Food is fine, however the chahan was quite bad. Butter taste too overpowering and the rice was very mashy. Do not order that, other than that, I have no further comments.
Thou they had the father’s day promo 2 sides for $10 I still think not worth it. Coz the portion is small n like cheapo. Had to remind the staff for cutlery not attentive enough
Food quality is consistent. The fish is superb and so is the katsu (pork). Staff are friendly and knowledgeable . A great place to have a meal in casual surroundings, with no fuss.
Long waiting time on a Saturday night. By 7pm, salmon sashimi was sold out - my kaminabe set's sashimi had to be replaced to gyoza.
Nice ambience of the restaurant and excellent service as the staffs there was very patient and friendly in answering our queries. Price range was reasonable and acceptable for the quality of the food offered. Would definitely visit this outlet again!!!
Excellent Japanese food at an affordable price. Great service as well.
It's probably the best value in town.
Let's support our local businesses! Covid is very tough for restaurants.
Good quality and not crowed! Service staffs are very friendly!
Very good spread. Was approach by one of the staff Simon who has a very good attitude. He promoted the one for one so we decided to give it a try .very good service and ended up a happy customer.
Had a pleasant dining experience at the Waterway Point outlet. Great recommendation from Ms. Pornyupa to try the new menu kaminabe zen. Will be back soon again
Food was good! Valuable pricing for quality food. Service staff was friendly as well!
Hitsumabushi was not bad/ok but very small portion. More worthwhile to pay up n go to manman to eat unagi if u desire unagi.
Basically it’s a more cheaply priced Japanese restaurant with 6-7 star quality food.
A good service of Poryupa and Kelly who are helpful and patient to served me and friend to have a wonderful meal, I'm regularly having dinner here and get spin n grab lucky draw
The place is pretty cosy, service staff were very friendly and recommended some of their popular dishes. Food came out to be awesome too.
Good ambience in the restaurant and offers a wide range of food varieties and interesting food items like the kaminabe with different options. Staffs there was friendly and attentive, would definitely visit this restaurant again:)
Good food 👌
service was very well done and workers were very respectful. food was super good too!! 👍👍
Tomato Seafood Ramen was not cook properly.
Eating is natural, chewing quietly, gently aftertaste, extraordinary charm.
Food is our nature, chew quietly, and savor it gently, with an extraordinary charm.
