Reviews of Zenryoku Izakaya (Japanese Drinking Bar)
Hidden Gem! Food is really good! The chicken pieces, wings etc are the biggest i have ever seen in an izakaya! They accommodated us despite us not having a booking (reservations definitely recommended) and service was great even though they were quite busy.
Definitely worth returning!
Really cosy and warm atmosphere! Food was great, excellent service. Sashimi 10/10 fresh, and I liked the dessert (warabi mochi) too!!
I would give 5/5 stars if not for the ladies seated behind us who kept shouting and it felt intrusive
== Quick Summary ==
Below average value in a place that tries to be upmarket but really is not. Food is okay; above average but when you consider the price, you're much better off in a 5-star Kushiyaki restaurant like Kazu (Cuppage) or Nanbantei (mass market but much better food and at much much better value).
I really want to like this place. It's near where I live and it seems cute and cosy. But try as I might, I can only spare 3 stars at best.
First, know that all patrons need to order an alcoholic drink or a nonalcoholic soda. We are okay with this. After all, this is a newly established Izakaya trying to make it's mark. However, the cheapest Sake (house) is $30. For a suburban restaurant that hasn't earned its stripes, this is quite over the top. Or you could order a Yuzu Sour at $12. Or nonalcoholic Calpis Soda at $10. Still, not very acceptable.
I think we would consider how palatable the drink prices are once we look at the food. Unfortunately, the food is priced higher than many superior Kushiyaki restaurants. Definitely much more expensive than Nanbantei and slightly more than Kazu (gasp, a much more established and superior restaurant in terms of food quality, service, and ambience!).
Kushiyaki food wise, wagyu beef, chicken wings, and chicken skin were good. Beef tongue and chicken heart were, well, a little tough and not that great.
I would also not order the sashimi here. Having sat the counter, we didn't witness anything that makes their sashimi look appetizing. It came out of plastic and foam packaging. Hmm.
A few other minus points include non-refillable hot green tea... Something that only happens in very select Japanese restaurants. Also, be prepared to walk out of the restaurant smelling like you've been in a billowy BBQ party; (something we would suffer for very good food but not necessarily here).
Kudos to the young folks trying out here. We sincerely wish you all the best. Just don't think we will come again if things remain the same.
Sorry!
Finally visted their new shop and it's a step up from their previous place at the food court.
Loved the smokey taste from yakitori and sashimi.
Will definitely come back again with my other friends
A Cozy Izakaya that transports you to the land of the rising sun!
Food served were delicious and fresh!
Small cozy izakaya with fantastic food & drink at reasonable prices. Honestly haven’t had a bad thing here. Even the chicken breast is good. Love the daikon soup. Staff are super friendly too. Highly recommend!
Waiting time for food takes quite long but food is yummy. . Menu variety is plentiful, but for beverage, the price of green tea is the same as a can of soft drink too. It would be nice to provide free tap water too as most drink alcohol too. Place is quite compact and would be good to have bigger area. Kudos to the bunch of young staff whom is so dedicated and hardworking. 👍
Great izakaya! From the onden, to the grilled meat, fried karaage and udon. Alls good! Such a great place to hang at corner of upper thomson.
Good selection of alcohol
Food was yummy !
Saw this place through Google map. Interested and it's good. Although serving food time is bit while, but the Vibe and food is splendid.. And love the atmospheric..
Honestly 5 stars for the look and feel of the place. Very Japanese, has lanterns hanging outside, the seats are very squeezy and a lot of the decor has wood in it.
The food on the other hand was disappointing. Ordered the nanban kaarage and there was some black sauce under the fried chicken which was definitely not Japanese and didn't go well with the whole dish.
The chirashii bowl was fresh but the size is just appalling. Please indicate a "fun size" besides the item to manage people's expectation. Not worth the value at all.
There is a minimum order of 1 drink per customer which is pretty standard for Izakaya. Spent $80 for 2 pax but the aftertaste was so bitter.
Came here once when they first opened and again not too long ago.
The first experience was a mixed bag. Food was good. Service clearly had not settled in. Staff were blur, did not know how to efficiently pull beers, and they evidently had issues with their dishwasher.
Those issue are now non-existent. Can't believe how much they have improved over the months. Service is fast and effective. We had our first dishes out within 5 mins of ordering and the rest of the meal was well paced.
The standard of the food was well maintained too. The gizzards were just done giving a soft and crunchy texture enveloped by a delicious smokiness. Wings were deboned. Both wings and thighs were wonderfully juicy and again with a huge lick of smoke.
The yakitori here is on the saltier side so do have a beer or even a bowl of rice ready to moderate the flavor.
Best izakaya I've had in SG. easy recommend.
Hubby and I saw a TikTok review of this restaurant and decided to give it a try. When we first stepped into this place, we were pleasantly surprised with the nice cosy decor - feels like you are in a quaint izakaya joint right in Tokyo. Loved the potato salad and pork okonomiyaki. The salmon belly is a must try. Even the simple stir fried vegetables tasted great. Food is excellent, portion is big and price is reasonable. Very nice place to just chill, eat, drink sake and relax. This place is really a hidden gem. Highly recommend.
It is a pleasant experience dinning in this cosy Japanese restaurant with my family. The potato salad with tobiko is my favourite and not forgetting the array of freshly served sashimi. I like the smorgasbord of choices in the menu which can satiate different taste buds. Highly recommended for gourmands to gourmets.
Awesome place! Love the vibe and the chef JJ. Enjoyed my time there.
Reasonably priced fresh sashimi, smoking yakitori, paired with a wide selection of sakes: perfect way to end the week or start the weekend!
Kiddo loves their cold udon, sous vide quail eggs and grilled corn too! Will be back for more! 😋
My second time dining here. Food quality is good. Randomly ordered a few dishes all turned out yummy. Price is not cheap but still worth trying.
Really love the food and effort that the chef and team brings to the table! Always something new to try and never disappoints! Thumbs up to the kimchi yukke, yakitori, coriander salad and warabi mochi! Convenient location and quality food in the area
One of the best Japanese Izakaya in Singapore. Freshest ingredients and tasty food. Definitely should not miss if you love traditional taste Japanese food.
This is one of my go-to places for Izakaya. The food selection is limited but it caters to my 👪 taste. We love the dons, yakitori and the sashimi (esp the one with Kimchi).
Amazing sashimi,it was fresh and top quality.Skewers were well marinated, absolutely wonderful👌👌👌will be better if the hostess could be less rigid about the seating arrangements, especially when the bar area was way too limited to accomodate the amount of food that we ordered
great food, atmosphere and service from dave!
Very cosy and nice joint along thompson.
The food is good and lots of sake options to choose from. Very crowded during dinner hours try to book earlier!
Nice little joint with good Izakaya bites. Love the ikura-snow crab don and yakitori. Lovely sakes as well.
Great good and great experience. Nice boss who engages with the customers. And they even remember the dish i always order.
awesome new spot for me!!! food and service was excellent love it so so much ❤️ will definitely come back try other things in the wonderful menu soon~
