Reviews of The Cheese Ark
An absolute gem of a shop, a definite "must visit" for anyone who likes cheese. This little, inconspicuous shop is a treasure trove of spectacular cheese - if you want a memorable night out and a decadent cheese feast, this is the place to visit.
The friend I introduced to this place said the cheese platter was a “life changing experience”. I agree. It was the 3rd time I’m visiting and the cheese never disappoints.
Coming here satisfied not just the cheese crave, but also a chance to relive the nostalgia of yesteryear. I actually pondered for a while where this shop is as it is not obvious from outside, until you step closer and look into the place from the glass door to confirm. The curated cheese selection is really good, and paired perfectly with the recommended wine. Glad I am here to spend some time on a Saturday late afternoon.
Hands down the best cheese you’re going to find anywhere in Singapore, carefully and painstakingly selected over months in Europe personally, and lovingly aged in her chilled cabinet (sometimes for years) by owner Ming. She’s the ultimate cheese-sommelier, so just tell her what flavors, textures and any other preferences you have and she’ll get you set up. You can bring your own board for her to dress for you with an “omakase” selection of the best cheeses she has to offer, along with an assortment of nuts and dried fruit that pair very well with the cheese. Ask for her advice on what wines/sake to pair them with too. And she can also host you on premise to a delightful dining in experience carefully crafted for your enjoyment with wine/sake pairing if you’d like.
Every year Ming goes to Europe for a few months to look for cheese and we all wait longingly for her return (and stock up well in advance so we don’t have to resort to other shops for our cravings!).
Try it and you won’t regret it!
Small cozy place that we booked for a quick drink and cheese tasting experience for a group of 5 over the weekend.
Highly recommend making a reservation via email if you’re heading down with a larger group as there’s limited seating (2 tables?).
Cheese selection for the platter was really interesting and loved the variety. Was a good experience for someone like me who’s relatively new to cheese tasting! Parma ham was great and I loved the garnishes as well. Wine paring recommended by the staff was good too.
Spent around 57 per pax for 1 bottle of wine, ham, cheese platter + bread.
A small and quaint place to get some of the best and specially sourced cheeses if you are a fan of them! Owner is very knowledgeable and will recommend if you are looking for a particular type of cheese. I'm a fan!
This place actually makes me feel good about buying $100+ worth of cheese products. Standouts in particular include the mont d’or and mascarpone gorgonzola - the former is a party centrepiece; the latter good for furtive snacking on top of a wafer cracker, with cracked pepper and a tiny bit of sea salt sprinkled on top.
The store also boasts a near-antiseptic hygiene policy (a hand sanitising booth outside the store and only granting entry to one person at a time) which is simultaneously intimidating and comforting.
Love their cheeses. Was their fan all the way back in my poly years (10/11years ago) when they are still at the old turf club. Haha
If you are cheese lover, come here, will never go wrong
A place of dedication and passion to the art of cheese. And more. An ousting artisan shop and place of indulgence. Enjoy!
Favourite cheesemonger in Singapore! Ming is super friendly, knowledgeable, and has the BEST cheeses.
Great cheese & wine hangout joint. A good selection of cheese platter pair with good bottle of red wine makes your off day.
Walked in to ask the proprietor for recommendations, left with 3 cheeses :
A brie
A jersey cow
A buffalo crumbly blue
All good, so good
Nice platter of cheese and delightful experience... owner can be slightly more chatty and give more information but guess she is overwhelmed with doing everything on her own ...
Awesome selection of cheeses, always renewed. Feeling very welcomed and I appreciate the curated cheese platters to suit my mood!
We went on the 31st of December to get a cheese platter and even though there was a really long line out of the store, we managed to get in to the cheese room after around 20 minutes. The guy who served us was really nice and gave us a lot of good cheese recommendations after my partner and I said we were interested in trying things that were more unusual. He also helped to recommend cold cuts for us. We didn't manage to get his name but we really appreciate all his help!
A very lovely hole-in-the-wall artisan cheese shop. Owner is super passionate about bringing Artisan cheeses straight from Farm to Table. She buys directly from the small family cheese makers in Europe and import into Singapore. None of your boring commercial cheeses you get from supermarkets. The Cheese Ark have their own special built in chiller for aging the cheeses, so there are some ones that they age for further months in their shop, till it’s perfect to sell. I have been educated by them and learnt to appreciate a wider range of cheeses, and refined my cheese palette.
If you don’t know how to choose, don’t worry and please don’t be intimidated. Just tell them what kind of flavors you like in your cheeses and they will recommend the suitable cheeses for you.
I was a total newbie and was a deer in the headlights when I first started buying cheese from them. Started very light … and now I’m maybe at the intermediate level.
This shop used to be located in now defunct PasarBella at Turf City. I followed her from there till here in her own shop.
I can see why there are reviews about the owner being dismissive of locals. I went alone, dressed in a casual tee, shorts and slippers, and did get the vibe that I wasn't welcome, like the owner was in a rush to usher me out (even though there was no one queuing behind me). The cheese variety looks amazing, though. I might come back with some European friends just to see if we'll be treated differently. More amused than offended for some reason.
Update: Tasted the cheeses I bought, lovely. Revised to four stars!
Small place but the cheese very good. Expect $50 per person and not a lot of cheese, but worth going once in a while to try new artisan cheese. Better to book because she only has one table seating eight
Owner not friendly and does not like french cheese, men but love aged cheese. Ingeresting
Do your prior research when coming to The Cheese Ark for your cheesy cravings, I barely missed it when i drove past too quickly. Do look out for cars that are diagonally parked, that's when you know you are in the right place. Outlook of the shop is straight-up discreet, almost similar to one of those "sleeper cafe". Just a bare concrete wall and a couple of wooden crates, hiding a trove of cheesy goodness behind it. We were greeted warmly by Ai Ming Syu and her assistant as were entered the shop, you can immediately feel how homely and immaculate the place was designed. One could say it was purpose-built for the sole existence of cheese, and its variety and taste certainly did not disappoint. I would be definitely coming back for more. 10/10 WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND this hole-in-wall-cheese-vault to anyone who is looking into "cheese-connoisseuring" Your taste buds will be well taken care of!
Appreciated the personal touch to curation of quality cheeses - went for the platter and loved it.
Love the selection of exotic cheese personally curated by the owner. Special shout out to their awesome truffle gorgonzola.
The best cheesemonger in the country! Such passion for cheeses. Carefully curated. They'll even suggest the best spot in your fridge to get the best flavours out of your purchase!
